Wow - No ES6 news AT ALL?

Post » Mon Jun 20, 2016 12:33 am

I've been perusing the press announcements from the Bethesda E3 event.

News about ESO, Legends and Skyrim remastered. ZERO discussion of ES6.

Could it be that we simply won't be seeing it for many more years, if ever????

Bethesda's E3 was a let down in many ways-I expected at least an announcement of a new IP-but their silence on TES6 means nothing. Bethesda didn't announce Fallout 4 during E3 2014 either, and yet just over a year later the game was released. Since they remastered Skyrim, it wasn't in Bethesda's interests to announce that the new TES game is coming next year even if it is--few would buy Skyrim in that case.

I wasn't really expecting any. It was just a pleasant thought that we might get surprised... but we didn't. Oh well, maybe next year.

You know what I mean. Even if TES6 is coming next year, Beth wouldn't have announced it because of Skyrim remaster.

I am happy with the Skyrim remaster and am okay waiting for TES VI. I wouldn't be surprised if they announced it next year. But if it takes longer I'm okay with that.

Probably not til 2019 or 2020 at least.

I found with Bethesda to lower your expectations for everything new, and you won't be disappointed. (I lowered expectations for skyrim due to the burn I still felt from oblivions pre release hype, and was pleasantly surprised by skyrim for the most part). I also.stopped following their games pre release to also avoid being burned.

So if you just put the next elder scrolls game out of mind and expect it never, then you'll be happy if and when they finally do announce it. But expecting an announcement around every corner will just leave you disappointed.

Make that at least 2025 or so. Starfield is probably their game for the 2017-2020 release date range, Fallout 5 is likely their game for the 2020-2025 range, and TES VI is maybe their 2025-2030-ish game (unless they do Starfield 2 first, then it would be 2028-2035). It sounds like the plan for TES VI is to feature the entire Iliac Bay complete with sailable ships, seasonal foliage and a fully voiced protagonist across all ten playable races, or maybe something close in ambition in other ways. Todd Howard mentioned he'd like to see Daggerfall and Sentinel (the capitals of High Rock and Hammerfell respectively) in modern visuals, which hints at the idea that they want to feature High Rock and Hammerfell in the same game, which would be a pretty big workload even if they don't do a voiced protagonist.

TES VI is in some form of development/pre-production (and pretty much has been since at least Skyrim's Game Jam session), they just don't know if they can realize their vision on current technology. Skyrim itself was basically developed and released instead of Fallout 4 for similar reasons as far as I can tell.

Of course, this is probably going to be very dependent on stuff like PS4 Neo and Project Scorpio (the Xbox One thing that was pretty vague). They're doing at least one more game before TES VI, which is most likely Starfield. I don't think TES VI can be expected until mid-to-late 2020's, though.

According to Todd Howard it's a "very long way off"

There's a thread now about what current news on TES there is: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1603434-the-elder-scrolls-vi-is-a-long-ways-off-interview/

If you want to discuss the E3 show specifically, use this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1603398-e3-2016-thread/

Thanks
