Harry Potter Franchise Remake

Post » Sat Jul 16, 2016 8:05 am

I recently found my Harry Potter game collection in a box and decided I wanted to see how they were after all this time. I own 1-5 which all installed just fine. 3rd game will not work under Windows 10 at all and most of them are stuck in a 4:3 aspect ratio. Not only that but after 15 years they aren't looking so great. From what i can tell all the games in the franchise are linear worlds and the ones i own have really clunky controls.

This got me thinking about a remake and the first developer who came to my mind who i'd actually want a remake from was Bethesda. I think they could do something really special with the franchise and could bring it back to life. I don't think the world is done with Harry just yet and I think Bethesda could easily get 10 years out of this franchise depending on how long between releases; since there is potentially 8 games. I just feel like they deserve a proper remake and i think Bethesda could do something really amazing here. The games, at least the first 5, are outdated and have really bad graphics. The voice acting is really bad and the original game developers did not care about Harry Potter at all. Its clear what they were after. I don't know how many other people might agree with me. I sent an email to Bethesda and the person recommended i suggest it here. They seemed like they would be open to the idea so i figured i might as well post it. Let me know what you guys think

I'm a long-time Bethesda fan, but I would not buy a Harry Potter game from them.

I always wanted a sandbox Harry Potter game where you make your own character.. not remakes.

But many people would buy a new HP games, regardless of who makes it.

I highly doubt Bethesda would have any interest in acquiring the HP license, especially just to remake games that already exist.

Guess I had the wrong developer in mind for this franchise. It was just a thought that popped into my head. I really enjoy their games and thought they'd do really well with it but maybe I'm wrong. Oh well. Thanks for everyone's thoughts and opinions

Do you have any idea how many hundreds of millions of dollars Bethesda would probably have to spend on acquiring the Harry Potter license?

Bethesda have developed/published games with outside licenses in the past (like Terminator in the 90s and Pirates of the Caribbean & Star Trek in the 00s), but I don't think it's likely they will do it again anytime soon. They seem to be pretty focused on their own stuff, and have no desire to pay to license some fictional universe when they work on their own.

You people know that Bethesda isn't the only video game company out there in the world right? And that making actual gameplay isn't really their forte...

As much as it pains me to say, you're right. Bethesda is good at making games, but superb at creating worlds. It's their forte. Gameplay isn't.

The closest thing to a Terminator RPG I've played is probably https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hired_Guns. And yeah, shame the Alien RPG by Obsidian was cancelled.

I think people's obsession with Bethesda is how unique their games are, because, you have to face it, i cannot name any other Developer that puts as much freedom in their games.

BUT, at the same time, as many here have said, there are more Developers than Bethesda.
