Gaming laptop bargain GTX 965m for only £280?

Post » Sun Jan 29, 2017 4:10 pm

I want to buy this laptop but at such a price there's got to be a catch, this is a decent gaming laptop for less than a absolute bottom end model, what do you guys think?

I don't know anything about Yunsen laptops, so I can't say if they are reliable or not. I would do some research first. Otherwise, the specs look great. The GPU looks good enough to run modern games on high settings at around 30 FPS (as on a console).

But again, the reliability of this unit..I don't know anything about them. I have nothing against gaming laptops, but generally, you're looking to spend a little bit more than this, which makes me skeptical.

Are you looking for a laptop for gaming? And what games do you want to play?

That is strangely priced... Those are good specs, but especially for teh price.

I have a weaker laptop and it runs Skyrim LE fairly well on High.

Specs are good, but I have quite literally never heard of that brand before so I can't put any input on the reliability.

Amazon are good with returns so I think I'll get one just out of curiosity, if legit deals like this are once in a lifetime.

Amazon are good with returns only if you order directly from them, here you're dealing with a third party seller. In this case ILikeStores - they seem to get generally favourable customer reviews though they usually specialise in furniture. There's one review on Amazon for a YunSun laptop and it gets 5 stars with the buyer saying it has good build quality. The buyer seems legit as has written other reviews like a normal buyer. Edit: there's a review for a different laptop, 4 stars but recommending not to buy as they had problems with Win 10 and Chrome. Otherwise it was OK. Another model gets two 5 star reviews.

If I had the spare cash I might be tempted to get one.

Its a common Chinese laptop clone. Build quality is usually below average, so its not something that you'll want to carry with you everyday. If you keep it at home, it will be fine. Another problem is thermal performance. Since its generic, it probably will thermal throttle often and will have a lot of fan noise.

Don't rely on any driver/software support, because I doubt there is any. On a laptop this is damning. Not that normal retail laptops have great support, but at least you have an option.

I generally don't recommend laptops for gaming period, but generic laptops definitely aren't recommended. Buyer beware.

edit: There is also a possibility that malware will be preloaded. There is zero regulation so the manufacturer will try to subsidize the cost by loading any trial software that they can find. Retail laptops may have junk preloaded, but it is usually not malware and can be removed easily.

I would do some research first. That thing has "cheap copy" written all over it. Maybe I'm wrong and jumping the gun, that's why I say do research first.
