Fallout 3 assets that are in New Vegas

I have a noobish question that I want to word very carefully as I'm not at all interested in breaking any rules. I've read here and elsewhere and seen for myself that many of the FO3 assets are included in New Vegas. I've noticed that some of these assets appear to be incomplete or rely on content that is missing, for example I've noticed that some models such as super mutants are missing geometry. Maybe that's how it is supposed to look though, I'm pretty new at this. My question is this, can you use the NV geck to load the FO3 assets (so they are complete) and use them for NV mods or does that not work (or does it violate the rules)? Obviously if said mods were distributed the user would require FO3 data files.

Another noob question, is it even at all possible to do a total conversion using the geck? I was thinking about in my free time messing around and creating a miniature game of sorts. I've only got my feet wet and created some boring worlds and boring quests that have a lot of noob bugs to work out. I was thinking of using a VR pod to access it as a sim or something, but I was wondering if it was possible at all to bypass the main game and go right into what I created. Sorry for coming off as an amateur, I used the search function and didn't really see much in the way of answering these questions. My apologies if anything I said violates the rules, that's not my intent to walk on copyrighted material

Importing FO3 assets into FONV is a banned topic on this forum. At least thats what I have seen over the last couple of weeks.

Yup from what i've heard if the mod is "JUST FOR YOU" and You alone it is a sort of greyish area/is slightly ok. However if you plan to take elements from FO3 and put them into a mod then release them that's a no no. Even though it's under the same company/family it's still considered a no no and will get you in trouble. *Still scratching my head as to why, but whatever rules are rules*

Right, that is what I kind of figured. Sorry, I'm not trying to break the rules or anything and I won't mention it again. I was just curious about completing the assets since there are so many from FO3 already in the game. I completely understand the legal aspect of protecting copyrighted material, I was just hoping maybe this were diff since we already have access to the majority of FO3

I conducted an anolysis of the model assets that were transferred between Fallout3 and Fallout: New Vegas, you can find the spreadsheet http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34774.

If you have any questions on which models were present in both games, this will tell you.

Cheers,
