I know this because when I go into the FALLOUT.ini and FalloutPref.ini files and change bEnableAudio=0 (disabled) the game launches but without any sound. As soon as I set this variable back to 1 the games crashes again. This is what the game sets the audio parameters to in the FALLOUT.ini file by default for my system:

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head, you probably will not like. But, I'll just go for it anyways.

Take the audigy out of your system, and throw it in the garbage. Then, wipe and reload your system... sorry to be a jerk, but it's probably the audigy being a pile of doodoo.

The audigy's were good cards, but for windows 7, they're pretty much useless. All the fancy features don't really work, and tend to screw everything up. Add to that that the creative drivers are AWFUL... and there you have it. Oh, and the drivers are so hideous, that's why you need to wipe after removing the card, since you'll never get all of the drivers out.

I do agree it is an old sound card for the system I have. However every other game I own works fine. What I find frustrating is that the exact same problem existed with Fallout 3 yet Bethesda fail to recognise that this was the issue (they claimed it was my OS). I hoped this would have been resolved with this release, but hey, I guess it is the same engine so the same bugs still exist. Do you recommend a decent sound card?
