So I'm at the part where there is a showdown or whatever between NCR and Pacer. I wanted to side with NCR, but this mission asks me to kill NCR and help Pacer. What do I do? I want to earn the Kings' trust so I can tell him to back down from attacking NCR, but now I'm gaining NCR infamy and lowering my rep... when this mission is supposed to be for the NCR mission.

Ugh what do I do!?

Anyone? I am sitting here at my Save/Load screen thinking about what to do. I lost a lot of rep and got infamy for doing the king's quest to gain his trust; but I wanted to help NCR not kill their members!!!!!!!!

Is there another solution to this mission/problem?

Talk to the NCR officer. King's men should stand down and the NCR should do the same.

...and I really wanted to shoot Pacer in the face during the "Birds of a Feather" quest I took after this one.

Which officer? When I walk over to the NCR side of the "stand-off" they start shooting at me. Even though I am Liked by NCR...?

Make sure you have no weapon drawn when you're walking up on the shoot out. Talk to the Major to resolve it peacefully.

Omg I can't thank you enough. Luckily I was smart and saved right after that Kings guy came in and said there was the shoot-out, so I can go back before it now.

For the Republic here I come ! :)

I stand corrected; I have no weapon drawn (actually don't even have one drawn; I'm just 'holstering' my fists), and the NCR still open fire on me when I get close. I even tried having my companions wait far away. Nothing. They still attack me. What am I doing wrong?

Did you tell the King that the NCR actually sent him a messenger?

Say what?

*edit*
That isn't a conversation option? And now he is telling me to go aid Pacer; but I don't want to lower my rep with NCR. What do I do now? I have spent an hour sitting in this one spot waiting for people to reply, and nothing has been solved yet. Great. Love this game.

Looks like you missed an optional objective when the king asked you investigate what the NCR is up to in Freeside. The King is one of the few "good guys" I've run into so far, but is only as good as the information you feed him. His "right hand man" Pacer is a weasel that really needs a .308 hollow point sized third eye.

Well. Had you actually done the optional objectives earlier, you would have this option.

These involved going around to the squatter camps in Freeside or asking Julie Farkas what the NCR was up to in Freeside. Getting info from one of those led you to a secret MCR supply/food drop for NCR citizens only, and you would have met the Major of that NCR contingent there. She would have told you they sent a messenger to the Kings, and he came back beaten up. This opens up new dialogue with Pacey and The King since the King never knew a messenger was sent because Pacey intercepted him and beat him up. When you tell him this he has you go to talk down the NCR from killing Pacey instead of asking you to kill them.

But since you skipped all that for some reason, the only way to resolve this quest is to now kill the NCR.

So is there a way I can successfully complete this quest without killing NCR? Like if I just killed Pacer during the shootout, or something?

Yeah, find out all the information before the shoot-out happens and tell it to King. The NCR envoy that got roughed up is the key part you need. This bit of information required killing of two NCR rangers to get. I'm sure there is a less hostile way to get inside that building, but I didn't bother finding it.

I killed Pacer. The NCR still shot me :(

I say do a lot of stuff for the NCR so that it's like nothing ever happened if you kill them. Rex is worth it :fallout:
