Game is too fast or too slow?

Post » Sun Jan 09, 2011 9:49 pm

My game world seems to go in fast forward when my FPS gets high(50-70 fps) or slow motion when my fps drops This is common whenever I either stare at the ground or at the sky. I was wondering if there was a fix or is this or even been reported. I searched on Google and on the forum search but couldn't find anything. I have a 9800 GT, Intel Core 2 Duo, 4gb RAM.

Actually the thread that deals with this issue is http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1126154-ifpsclamp60/. That command helps but you have to be willing to fiddle with your settings to get it to work just right. I just finished playing with mine and when you get it right, man is it a lot nicer to play.

I just finished posting this in that thread.

I actually decided to go back and play with my settings, once again. I've managed to maintain it at 60 FPS with V-Sync on and iFPSclamp=60 98% of the time but it still goes into the 40's on some transitions but comes right back up again. I see the odd 57 FPS "flicker" here and there to but it's down and up pretty quick. This is running around Goodsprings and nearby area. It may be worse elsewhere but I have not played much past there. I love that the frame skip is gone and everything passes by smoothly, but hate the jaggies. My speed is what it should be and my character looks normal while running to.

Settings used:

1920x1200
Ultra
No AA
15 AF
None instead of bloom or HDR
V-Sync on

Remember if you are using the ifpsclamp=60 modification that if the game cannot maintain 60fps it will slow down!! Not just get jerkier/less smooth but actually slow down (I thought I was going crazy myself until I timed myself walking a set distance at different fps...) If using the dll fix set ifpsclamp=0 and your good to go!!

Indeed. It can be done, but again, you have to be willing to fine tune it and it can be a bit time consuming.

Those 40 FPS dips are murder when they happen because it damn near stops you dead in your tracks for a second and is rather jarring to the immersion. Damn sweet when it's at 60 though!

Ya i just don't see why people are still recommending the ifpsclamp fix at all then now that the dll fix is up...

dll fix + ifpsclamp=0 - Great fps few drops
dll fix + ifpsclamp=60 - Great fps but causes the few odd drops to cause game to crawl.....

In my experience anyways!!

Damn, I need to go take a nap or something. Ignore my recent ramblings of a tired confused man.

Basically you need to lock your FPS at 60 to maintain the proper character speed with or without the dll file. V-Sync will keep you from going over but it's hard to keep it from going under. Just tweak your setting the best you can to maintain a solid 60 FPS and it wont happen. ren008 is correct about the difference being more drastic with iFPSclamp than without with FPS fluctuations.

I apologize ren008 and sgt.gotee.
