Lost 44 hours of Fallout save WTF help?

Post » Thu Jan 20, 2011 6:50 am

i quick travelled to the motel outside the ncr base then changed my mind as i got there and quick traveld to the crimson caravan company for some quest, i saw some fiends in the distance and started shooting at them with my sniper after killing them i decided i wasted to many bullets and loaded the last auto save witch was at the motel . [this save game relies on downloadable content that is no longer available.some objects may be no longer available. continue loading] i click yes then it says [the storage device you selected is no longer available .load cancelled

this happens on all of my saves i load them and then thats what it says i am playing offline atm at my granpartents house but i have downloaded the first patch that came out a week ago !

help?

load a save game of yestaerday it will work.

Savegames become corrupted in same cases and all the successive saves are corrupted too.

it is the mayor bug that every one is asking to have a fix

Chances are it will only affect future saves, it depends on what the problem is but it's generally difficult to uncorrupt something.

I don't think that's going to make any difference, you may unfortunately have to start again with Fallout, I know you have played on it for 40 hours and you may see this as a waste of time, well at least you will be familiar with all the creatures and quests within the game so you may find it easier this time round. And you probably will complete quests a lot quicker just be careful when playing at this stage.

The patch wont be able to fix previous corrupted saves as far as I know. Once a save is corrupted there is very little chance that it can be fixed because it can no longer be loaded this would mean that you would have to start over again

I'm thinking the same way, Falloutfan, but recently it's occured to me that if the save is looking for missing DLC that a patch might fix it by telling the game those items do indeed exist. We shall see.

As for the OP, do yourself a favor and turn off auto-save. It's the culprit of many, many, many game killing bugs.

Welcome to the save corruption club.I managed to dig my way out of it.And now save every 15 minutes. And after I save,I load the save to check it isn't corrupted. I was at 53 hours when the save bug hit me.

The problem is, it does not seem to be one set of circumstances that sets it off. I wish I knew about the problem beforehand before walking blindly into it.If I did not dig my way out of the mess.I'd still be pretty angry.

Two types of save corruption, the no dlc message that takes you back to the start menu, and the loading screen freeze.

Thankfully I had one save point I could go back to that loaded out of 7 saves. But it had already led to more corrupt save points.
I went back today and played offline, and got rid of my companion rex. I played the same part that corrupted the saves.
But it would only corrupt offline if I blew the Brotherhood of steel bunker.Where as online it corrupted if I killed all of the Brotherhood in the bunker by weapon.

Offline I could continue by killing everyone with weapons, and carried on playing without save corruptions.I am not saying something else won't trigger it.But now that I am aware.I can save frequently and check each save loads properly before moving on.

i was on the brotherhood of steel quest line when it happened and the fact they only give you 100 saves so i end up saving onto saves dose not help
