I need a mod for lods and stuff.

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:34 pm

In the early stages of modding my oblivion. I have got the unoffical patch installed alongside QTP 3 and Dernified UI. the wilderness in oblivion looks very plain and dull. I know their are lods and stuff to improve the look of the mountains and to make things come into focus quicker i just dont know were to find the best mods? im looking for the best graphical quality out their as my system should easily handle it.

Problem is there are so many i just dont know which is the best one? I have also heard you can combine pack together for adding improvements. What is RAEDWD?

There isn't a "best." There are only the ones you like most. Go with that. RAEVWD is Arthmoor's Visible When Distant Mod. Did you look at the screen shots? It makes all vanilla architecture visible from a distance. RAEVWD also supports a few significant mods as well. Check out its TESNexus page. Almost all of the texture packs in my list there can be used together, except for all of the overlapping LOD landscape textures of course. Just look at there TESNexus page. The best one for you will only be the one you think looks best. No one can make that decision for you. All of the texture replacers in those to places are high quality. I primarily use HighRez replacers. The main exception to that are the Landscape LOD textures and normal maps. I think the 4096 and even the 2048 normal maps make things look to bumpy and have terrible tiling in the evening (when there are many shadows), so I opt to use the QN 512 normals. For the textures themselves, I prefer 2048. Again, the 4096 did not look as good to me. You should devour as many screen shots as you can. That is the best way to avoid those huge 20MB downloads being 1 hour or more waste.

These look nice the ground looks high res. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=oblivionmods.detail&id=2246

Post in Arthmoor's thread to get help. That opening sentence was quite a way to trivialize the mod. VWD mods bring machines to their knees. Arthmoor's is not as bad of course, but you should have a better than average setup to run it without it making gameplay unbearable. The error you posted sound like a script error, however. That is odd. That is not the exact error, is it?

Edit: Did you download the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24701and the actual 1_7 version of http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20053. Read the instructions on the OMOD installer's description. There is nothing unclear about the directions.

..."attitude?"...huh... Anyway, I just wanted to point out that RAEVWD is not going to make the landscape texture's better. You still need those as separate downloads. Remember to get the RAEVWD QTP3 support option from the Really AEVWD page. In conjunction with RAEVWD, it is highly recommended that you use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15781. It generates dlod files based on your load order. That also means that you should rerun it almost whenever you make changes to your load order. It is simplest to just rerun it every time.

Edit: TESNexus mod URL: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id= <-- mod numbers are at the end of my packages

suggestions
LOD normal maps: - Reduced LOD - QN512.7z-11441.7z
Qarl's LOD Smaller Uncompressed Normal Maps-26911.7z <-- this new release is supposed to reduce tiling (use it in place of the other one, I have not tried it yet)

LOD textures: 613 - Shaja - Landscape LOD Textures (Border Regions)-2210.7z (8E19C19B) <-- I have not tried these Shaja textures yet
614 - Shaja - Landscape LOD Textures-2182.zip (D0A94F6B) <-- they are highly recommended and I liked the pics, I will try when I have the chance to play again
BTQ Landscape Lods-7212.7z <-- I use these, they are 2048x2048, I think all of these landscape textures I have suggested are this size
