Ps3 crashing

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 12:14 am

Before the patch, 2 freezes in 52 hours, but framerate went from (I'm purely guessing, cant do fraps on ps3) a comfortable 40fps with occasional 'catches' of 25fps in the 'overworld' to VERY constant catches of like 20fps inside and outside starting at right around the 7mb save file size. It never got unplayable for me, at max i reached 60 hours 8.5mb save file, but it was enough to make me want to download the new patch.. it started acting like dragon age for ps3.. which always runs at 20fps and looks like a ps2 game with some more anti-aliasing

after patch, 2 freezes in 30 minutes and I am now jesus because the ground turns from gray to brown under my feet and shadows appear 10 feet in front of me as though the sun shines only for me.

I know others have already said the same thing but the more heads the sooner this will be addressed I hope. I had no problems with Skyrim on ps3, never had a single crash or any game breaking glitches or problems with quests, the only thing I suffered was the horrendous lag after 2 hours of gameplay which was easily fixed by resetting the console, and I don't mind that because at least the game was telling me, here this isn't healthy, go stretch your legs then come back. But now I'm plagued with crashes every 20 minutes, I can't even relax and enjoy the game anymore. Its a shame as I just hit my 200th hour (I know, it has consumed my life, and I havent even gone to visit the greybeards yet!) and I was really enjoying my time in Skyrim. Hopefully this gets patched asap and we don't have to wait two weeks for it get classification and all the politics that surround submitting patches.

Having severe crashing issues after the 1.2 update. The patch fixed some of the severe lagging I had before though. However, the PS3 crashing is driving me nuts... I've stopped playing (140 hours in).

Now for a little venting..... How in God's name was Bethesda allowed to release a game with these problems??? I'm sorry but this is a sloppy mess.... Its my first Bethesda game and surely my last. These guys should be embarrassed for this glitchy, sloppy, half-assed QA mess. I'm sure these greedy a-holes knew it was a nightmare too. Forget glitches, framerate issues, crashing, etc.... the game has plenty of flaws. The UI is a disgrace (2 hot keys, slow favorite system, etc), the spells svck for the most part (thanks to an over-powered melee system), and its way too easy to exploit the leveling system. WAY too easy. Some people over there need to be fired. This had such potential too.... What a waste.

Btw, IGN, 1up, etc need to reevaluate their scores. I'd give this a solid B or an 8.0.

Is anyone else having the same problem as me? My game is now crashing my ps3 all together now. I wait a couple hours in game till it night time and it freezes afterwords which forces me to shut off ps3. After turning my ps3 back on it tells me the ps3 there has been possible file corruption and needs to check and restore. The problems of this game have escalated beyond belief.

The 'file corruption check' appears to be a new feature on the PS3 itself - I just auto-downloaded a 4.00 update last night that I installed this morning.

Sony picked perfect timing for this. Now my Skyrim crashes are 5 times as long - turn the system off after freeze, restart, have the system tell me it's going to check for errors, restarts, checks for errors, then restarts again. Ugh.

I'm getting a lot of freezes after waiting, as well. Just tried twice in a row with the same result. Terrible.

Make that three crashes in the last 15 minutes. Two from waiting, and one just in the middle of combat. [censored] kidding me, Bethesda?

I'd take this damn thing back and go buy the PC version, but I hear it's just as [censored] now after the patch. Way to go.

Since its your first bethesda game it should be clarified that its mass amount of bugs and glitches are just something they can't possibly iron out until millions of people are playing, Due to the vast amount of ways to approach the game with so much content and variation between playthroughs a lot of things are bound to go wrong. Like with previous bethesda games you just gotta stick it out and after 2-3 patches things should run smoother. Frankly I dont mind losing progress here and there for a game ive already put 200 hours into and will most likely still be playing it this time next year. Most other AAA titles I can finish in a day and get bored of in a week, not really worth 60 euro even if they are glitch free, this game however, despite all its glitches and bugs, was worth every penny.

You aren't the only one... In fact it would seem that most of us are having this problem since the most recent updates to the game and the system...

Okay I don't know if this had anything to do with it but I noticed the crashing for me didnt start immediately after the patch, its only happened since I started going around with a companion again, so I got rid of my companion and now the crashign has stopped, so far so good anyways.

Well said WarghHour, there are far too many people who don't seem to understand the depth of these games at all and decide to knock them right at release because of the bugs that they couldn't be expected to see until the game was released... I still play all of the Elder Scrolls games and I shall continue to do so until they stop making them (which will be a sad day for games indeed) I frequently go back and play Oblivion and Morrowind and I play Daggerfall and even Arena when I've got a computer that can run them... Bugs will always exist in Elder Scrolls games because of the extreme depth of the games but they always fix the bugs after a few patches and after that there are only minor issues that they can fix with small future patches...

My PS3 has ,ever since playing skyrim, crashed repeatedly and reported save corruption. The console itself began to not turn on so I called Sony who instructed me to go to safe mode and clear the file system. I did this a total of five times in a one week period before it simply crashed completely. This time Sony told me the PS3 was practically dead and that skyrim has caused similar problems to others. I have finally just bought it on the 360 but I am extremely disappointed. I love the game and have played both Oblivion and Morrowind to death. Bethesda has released a game which one, has innumerable issue and two, has almost broken my PS3. I just want at least for Bethesda to acknowledge this.

Both times I've played the game since the patch, I've had lock-up. Monday night, the first time I tried to fast travel, it locked up. Last night it happened early on when I went to access the Map/Items/Skills/Magic menu.

Another odd thing I've noticed is that in one dungeon I previously cleared, the corpses are gone, but their weapons remain. In another, the bodies are stripped (okay, in their standard-issue Skyrim undies), yet if you go to search the corpses, the listing includes all their armor as if they were clothed.

When I attempt to harvest ingredients, it hesitates just long enough to make you want to press the button again, although it's not necessary.

I've only had a brief amount of time each night since the patch to actually play, but this is what I've noticed so far. I'm still getting very brief frame rate drops here and there and landscape features popping up, or phasing in in strange ways.

Not quite game breaking...yet...but I am concerned about what I'll find the longer I play.

I have been a lurker on this forum since before the patch was released, trying to find any information on whether the game was getting fixed or not, and have continued to come here to view reports of problems post patch. This post has prompted me to sign up and reply because I want to share my experience(s) so far with the game post-patched and the PS3 crash problems.

Currently both my husband and I are playing Skyrim. Both of our games suffered the same problems pre-patch as everyone else but his file was always particularly glitchy and he suffered a lot more frame rate drop than I ever did, even when my file sized became comparable to his at 13MB. After the patch his game began to freeze completely, usually once he hit a town after clearing out the same dungeon for the 3rd time (due to crashes). At one point in time, mid auto-save, the game locked up completely. This resulted in a hard system reset of our PS3.

At this point in time we had decided it was time to dump several of our older save files and other game saves we had to free up some room on the HDD (hoping this would rectify the problem) When entering the game saves folder it became noticeable that 3 of the auto-saves for his game where now corrupted data. We continued on, deleted the corrupted saves and freed up some room on the hard drive, and went back to get our Skyrim on. At this point in time he had decided it might be time to start a NEW game and see if the PS3 lockup would happen still. So, the new game started, everything was running like brand spanking new.... except... when he went to save the new game lo and behold... his OLD GAME WAS GONE NOW!! CORRUPTED!

To make a long rambling short, I will get to the point of things. I fear that people who put a lot of hours (his game was at 140+ hours and mine at 90+ right now) and kept on cracking at it even during severely glitchy moments, may have really screwed up their games. The reason I say this is because my game now runs fine... even while I was battling 2 Dragons, a Giant and 2 Mammoths at once. (Which you have to admit is alot going on at once) I have minor frame rate issues here and there but at least it doesn't crash... *knock on wood* yet... but I never had the issues that he had from day one with his game so it makes me wonder if my game save was just less [bleeped] than his.

So, my advice, if you don't want to start a brand new game but are afraid of the PS3 lockup... best to have several save files in case one crashes while saving and gets corrupted. And turn off that auto-save if you haven't already. I know this might not be ideal to people but its only going to be temporary because eventually all these bugs will be ironed out. *crosses fingers* Also, as soon as the game starts lagging after extended play, SAVE - RESET, it has worked wonders for me rather than letting the frame rate drop lower and lower until gameplay becomes impossible and thus crashing completely.

This is ridiculous my game was fine with 1.1 patch and lagged only after a few hours of play which was fixed by saving and quitting the game and re-entering it, but now with this new "Patch" i can't do anything... I wait and freeze, move to another area and freeze play longer then 20 minutes roaming and freeze. It would be nice if they could undo this "Patch" so i could play again till then this game is brick and nothing more then a paper weight =( a real shame because it would totally be GOTY if it wasn't for the crap updates and multitude of glitches/bugs

Last night was playing. During the load screen the smoke quit moving which I thought another lockup. About that time I received a phone call and instead of reseting I just left it to talk on the phone. After about 5 to 10 min it took back off and I was back in the game again going to my original destination. So the next time It locked up I just left it and within the same time frame it took off working again. Weird but maybe it will work for you.

My saves have been corrupted after 30+ crashes. IMO this issue is paramount and far more important than the framerate lag right now

I'm rolling back to unpatched tomorrow. Deleting game/update data.

I at least want to be able to finish the main quest and companions quest line without my system imploding.

My system has hard frozen 8 times since the patch, 4 in one day, each of those ones after <20mins playtime. Few files were corrupted. I am scared for my ps3 like everyone else.

Ok this is the main reason i signed up ,

I just wanted to let people know that i think this new message you are seeing after a freeze up were it says its going to do a "file system check" & that if it is corrupted it may take 2 -3 hours , although it only takes like one minute (because it isnt finding anything i assume) , i think this could of been an added feature in the PS3 4.00 firmware , ive spent over 20 hours this weekend checking into it and while im still waiting for an official reply on my thread asking for confirmation that it was indeed part of 4.00 , im pretty sure at this point that its just part of the background of the 4.00 firmware because people are experiencing this new message after ANY freeze up, some froze on PShome , some on a game MW3 -SKYRIM etc, some just on the browser , so basically its any freeze, and you can just skip the file system check by pressing circle ,
im not ready to totally rule out skyrim as the cause yet but im at least 90+% sure at this point that it was just an added system safety feature in 4.00 to give the 'option' to check for file corruption after a freeze.
& if this is the case its bloody neglectful of SONY to not mention it , i know they only list the main changes in each firmware update, but something like this OBVIOUSLY has the potential to cause worry and concern .

if you want to add a post asking for confirmation from an official SONY guy ( as it will help me get a response quicker ) then go to my thread at EUplaystation technical help here >>> http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/Technical-Help/firmware-4-00-file-system-check-after-freezes/td-p/14345699

so plz add a post to my thread asking for confirmation so we can put our minds a t ease about this .

Same thing for me. The game freezes several times and I have to reset my system. I'm actually scared that it might completely destroy my ps3.

After the patch the game has literally become unplayable for me. My save file is only 6 mb, but like everyone else I can't play for more than 20-30 min before a freeze. After seeing the "checking for corruption" screen so many times I've decided to wait for a possible fix.

This is an extremely addicting game that can svck you in for hours at a time, but restarting your PS3 every half hour really breaks immersion :verymad:.
