Ps3 crashing

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 3:44 am

Is anyone else having the same problem as me? My game is now crashing my ps3 all together now. I wait a couple hours in game till it night time and it freezes afterwords which forces me to shut off ps3. After turning my ps3 back on it tells me the ps3 there has been possible file corruption and needs to check and restore. The problems of this game have escalated beyond belief.

Ive been having freezing up since he new patch that I didnt before, shoot last night I froze up after 20 min in the game, decided to wait for a couple
hours for a shop to open and it froze, tried again same thing, and then again same thing. I cant use the wait function without the thought it might freeze
up now. Its also happened a few times at loading screens also.

Six times for me since the "update"!!

I don't even want to play the game anymore until an update comes out that fixes the game.

I had several crashes before the 1.2 patch. Post patch I havent had any but that's with only about 6 hours total playtime.

I honestly do not notice any difference whatsoever between 1.1 and 1.2. Frame rates suffer about an hour or so in and the graphics look exactly the same. It's like not one thing was even done. Game file size increases in size exactly the same way as it did before.

Today was the first day in a while since I've played Skyrim (retail jobs this time of year svck). Played through about 4 hours today before the lag started showing up again. Figured it was just a way for my PS3 to tell me to find something productive to do.
Came back a bit later and while in Markarth I went to enter an area (don't remember which) and my system froze on the load. Had to manually reset. Tried to save before the entrance this time and the system froze again, but on the general settings screen. Reset the system and tried once more.... same thing.

For now, I'm stepping away from the system to give it a rest and hope that it stops. But this is definitely not a solid port of this game.

On an unrelated note, I even had a continuing problem with a dragon fight where I hit the dragon ONCE and then it started to give me the soul... while the dragon was still fighting. I was fighting a dragon skeleton. Did it twice in a row of the same dragon. This version needs more than a "patch".

Same problem.

Barely any crashes pre-patch and now it's every 20-30 minutes of gameplay. Mostly happens on waiting or area transitions. Almost unplayable now. Cheers Bethesda.

I agree this game needs a whole scrub down from bethesda. not more patches that fix one or two problems( and fix isn't the best word to use here, the word fix shouldnt be said at all since it cant be done properly)

Yeah. It's pretty sad. At first the game was great and we were all loving it, but now there are so many problems; from software to hardware repercussions, this game is becoming a nuisance.

I don't remember Oblivion having these type of issues on the PS3 when it got released.
Surely not as gamebreaking as the lag and not being able to finish the main quest.

I just don't get it. They are using the exact same engine. What made them screw up so bad now?

As I said in another Topic, I have a 300 hour character and several 100+ hour characters in Oblivion, it has never froze on me once and the only lag that I have experienced is not even noticeable. Then again another company ported Oblivion to the PS3, so it is not the engine that is the problem.

Either way, the odd thing is, I had the game unpatched (Lacked internet), I'll get the freeze and the lag, but only when my save file got bloated like crazy, and now with this patch (I freaking hauled my ps3 to my uncles house) it is freezing like crazy I had to unplug my PS3 4 times in a hour because it will not turn off and this is on a 4meg save file! Yea I'm uninstalling the gamedata and playing Unpatched.

I haven't played an Elder scrolls game since Daggerfall, the bugs drove me off.

Same experience all over again. The patch cut the save file down, and reduced lag till it hit 10 mb. Now having freezing within minutes of turning the game on at 11mb.

Also If I accidentally strike my Dremora lord as he's summoned, sometimes i'm flung 1/3rd the (world) map, Literally throws up the loading screen and places me thousands of feet over a mountain range, and locked into midair. This has been repeatable. Fast travel gets me free, but.... well "mildly" inconvenient at times.

Before the patch the Companions quest was locked mid story, with no possible way to progress any further (my first attempt at a runthrough before my current now buggy Mage)

New bug to add already... 3rd person, losing character model entirely. joy.

So I'm not the only one with the freezing after Waiting in-game :(

Twice last night I stood in front of a store, once in Windhelm, once in Whiterun, and used Wait for at least 5+ hours and when the time elapsed the system froze. The background music remained playing, but everything else with the game was frozen, and I couldn't bring the XMB up either. Had to manually reset the PS3 from the console.

I should add I've only had three system freezes since picking up Skyrim on release, so this is concerning if it was something in the patch that causes the freezing.

edit: I have auto-saving off for Travel, but I DO have auto-saving on during Wait. Maybe it has something to do with the auto-save?

That describes mine since the patch. Frame rate is better after patch but I'll take slow frame rate over crashing.

Same here. Pre patch I didn't have one singe crash. Post patch has been a nightmare, it's crashed on me at least 5 times already. I'm ready to shelf the game until it's fixed.

Turn all autosaves off. It reduces the frequency of crashes but there are still more than pre patch.
