Question About AlchemyPotions and Advanced Armor

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 4:44 pm

On several of the alchemy perks it says "potions and poisons you make are x % stronger" or something similar. So my question is this. I would assume that these perks don't apply to potions you loot or buy, which seems like the perks are not as powerful then if that assumption is correct. Also how would you be able to tell the difference between crafted potions and non-crafted in your inventory? Or do the perks simply mean that before you could only create minor or weak potions/poisons and with that perk you can now create higher level potions/poisons that change the name to something such as average or major potions/poisons. Does this mean main difference between what is a weak potion/poison and a strong one is your perks and not the ingredients used or your actual skill level? I'm simply confused how it works, and I never spent much time with alchemy in Oblivion and it seems very convoluted in my head at least.

Also, if I have understood the Smithing perk tree correctly the right side with Dwarven/Orcish/Ebony/Daedric is for heavy armor and the left with Elven/Glass is light armor but where does this leave the advanced armor? The description says you can create scale and plate armor with the perk... what does that mean? Also can we not improve leather and fur light armor?

I know these are minor and the game comes out 48 hours but I'm itching to find out every scrap of knowledge I can. Thanks you guys.

You can probably name your potions as in Oblivion.

On UESP it says "Potions are 20% stronger" not "Potions YOU MAKE are 20% stronger" and such. So I'd guess even looted / bought potions get the increase as well.

Ah. I was looking at this picture, that was presented in this thread http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1253475-better-looking-perk-trees/:

The perks for alchemy are only for potions you mix yourself. UESP is still outdated and better looking perk trees still have numerous errors :(

That being the case, would you have any knowledge to lend towards answering my questions?

Leather and fur do not need any perk to be crafted.

I'm wondering about scaled and plate too. My guess, Scaled is the High Tier type of light armor (Type of armor not what it's made of) and plate is the High Tier of heavy armor, and without this perk you can't craft them.

It would not make sense at all if potions that are looted or bought have a the perk applied. It's not like you suddenly do magic by receiving that perk.
This can only count against potions you make yourself and so it still is a very powerful perk in my opinion.

This is under the context of alchemy, hence it refers to created potions. Many of those perks simply add the benefits of alchemy tools from Oblivion.
