Raul-RangerAndy console command fix

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:48 am

For some bizarre reason, in order to access Raul's personal quest, "Old School Ghoul", the player approach Ranger Andy after taking Raul as a traveling Companion. You generally meet Ranger Andy in the early game, while Raul isn't accessible until you are powerful enough to tackle Black Mountain (usually in the mid-game). Having already met Ranger Andy and learned the Ranger Take-down, the only way to get back on track with Raul is via a console command. According to the Fallout wiki:

Note: If you are playing the PC version and have already learned the Ranger Takedown technique from Ranger Andy in Novac without Raul present, you can correct this by using the console and typing the following exactly: set "000e61a5".MetRangerAndy to 1 This *must* be done in an indoor area. Transition to an outdoor area and Raul should initiate conversation. If that console command doesn't do the trick, try set "000e61a5".MetRangerAndy to 2 and pick his dialogue option about Ranger Andy.

When typing in... set "000e61a5".MetRangerAndy to 1 ... all I get back is that ... '000e61a5' ...is an unknown variable. I've tried a wide variety of the stated console line -- using capital-O for zero in "OOOe61a5" for instance, but all I get are "unknown variable" responses.

Does anybody know the ACTUAL console command that must be typed in to make it work?

[I've looked at the fix files at http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36357, but I'm not programming-savvy enough to work through the download/Extract/etc. process. That is, even though it's right there in front of me, I don't know what the hell I'm supposed to do with it. And I'm certain those that _do_ know how will say, "But it's easy!" Yeah. Just like every other instance of "It's easy -- once you already know how."]

Discovered through further experimentation that there is no space between ... set "000e61a5" ...and the.... .MetRangerAndy to 1. Which means the line is typed:
set "000e61a5".MetRangerAndy to 1

HOWEVER, for whatever reason, with or without any console commands, if I try to talk to Ranger Andy, pressing E simply does a quick zoom-in and zoom-out. NO dialog options are offered.

This is getting frustrating because it is just this one conversation that is keeping me from initiating the Old School Ghoul sub-quest.

Use rdf when selecting Andy. As for myself, I can't get Raul to bring up the last bit of dialog for the quest to complete, even with what the wiki suggests.

Try set "000e61a5".RangerAndyDiscussed to 1. Then talking to Raul.
