Post » Thu May 17, 2012 9:49 am

So iam getting weird looking red models during the loading Screen. In game everything is normal btw. I checked everything i changed in the .ini files but nothing seems to fix it. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

I'm having the exact same problem as you. I don't know the reason why either, I just loaded up the game one time and the models all had a red tint to them. It's not really gamebreaking but it is annoying. I have a Radeon 5870 with the latest drivers, and an i7 920.

Good to know iam not alone with this. Perhaps we should try to narrow the problem down.

I edited my .ini files mostly according to this thread

however, i changed back to my backup .ini′s after the models color changed to red but the problem still persists. I used nvidiainspector to change my settings according to the neogaf thread and changing everything back to default didnt help either. The last thing i did which btw greatly boosted my performance of the game was to allow the Skyrim.exe to use more ram with Large Address Aware. That is all i can think of what i did before the model colors changed.

btw iam on a Phenom 2 x4 955BE @3,5Ghz, Win7 64bit, Gtx580 Twin Frozr 2 with latest WHQL cause the new beta driver made Skyrims performance very [censored] for me.

Thanks for the Large Address Aware tip! I applied it anyway to see if I would get any noticeable boost and it can't hurt. I guess the red tint texture is just a bug that will need to be fixed with a patch.

No problem and you′re right its not a major gamebreaking bug so i guess we can wait.

Have you tried verifying the game cache, just to make sure you don't have a corrupt texture file.

Thanks for the tip but it didn′t help. Oddly enough steam said there was a file missing and re downloaded it but the problem is still present.

How do you set Large Address Aware for Skyrim?

in the thread Its also described in great detail how to use it and what it does.

Btw it is recommended that you have at least over 3Gb of Ram and a 64bit OS.

I found the solution for the Red model issue. It is definitely something in one of the .ini files though i dont know which value. It seems i accidentally overwrote my backup files so no wonder it wouldn′t change. Simply delete your .ini files in C:\Users\yourname\Documents\My Games\Skyrim. You have to start from scratch but at least the ugly red models are gone.

I have the same problem in menu/loading screen. I don't have any problem in game, only in loading/menu screens.
