Ring of Erudite - High Gate Ruins; Unable to access

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 6:14 am

Im playing as a Vamp and trying to complete the quest for the "Ring OF Erudite" but am having difficulty. Looks like it spawns randomly but for me, its located in High Gate Ruins just outside of Vokuns chamber.

As I enter Vokuns chamber, there are two gates at the end of the room, and it looks like the gate on the left has a Shout wall on the other side and a marker showing the Ring is right there. HOW THE HECK CAN I OPEN THESE GATES?!?!?!? There are no switches or levers anywhere. On the walls, there are 3 snake symbols, but no way to op;en the gates. Does anyone know how to get those dang gates open so I can get my ring?

I do believe you can get all the way through High Gate Ruins only once; the first time.
Those gates open automatically when you defeat Vokun; so no Vokun, no opening the gates.

I'm afraid it's one of those Radiant Quest bugs that has been around since launch. Bad luck, friend.

I, personally, am unable to get a rare book for the college of winterhold because of this same exact problem. I also got screwed out of Yngol's Helm twice.

Try loading a previous save prior to that quest. Similar thing happend to me only difference was the quest arrow was pointing to the floor with no ring to grab. I reset and was given different locations. It has been my expierence with these side quest that is always good to save your progress before talking to the quest giver.

Thank Bethesda for great game design.
Give them a break, it will be fixed in the next patch if you notify Bethesda.

The game is largely bug free, they are constantly fixing bugs so just chill out and wait.

It's a very large game, little bugs like this are inevitable, that's why you need to make plenty of saves.

Probably not a way in, but is the back door still open? The one on the higher section in the room where Anska ever translating is. You can get up to that height going up through the rubble and sprint across.

I always thought there was meant to be an extra puzzle in the throne room to get the back doors open since they put the clues in there, but no switches, I ran around for ages trying to work out what they were for.

Never needed to try myself but the wiki says

It is still possible to enter the back of the Thone Room, if that is required in later Quests. You will then have to use the back entrance to the Vokun′s Throne room. And you have to have a http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Follower with you. Climb on top off the ruins on the right side in the second room of High Gate Ruins (right side on the map of High Gate Ruins where the door to Vokun's Throne Room is on the left side). Climb as high as you can get, to be about the same height as the platform on the opposite side. Then use http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Whirlwind_Sprint to get on to the platform. Now wait by the gate and you Follower should come to the other side of the gate. Then ask him or her to pull the chain with "Talk to ..." and "I need you to do something." (Did work on 360)

I would never have thought of that, but tried it out and it still works. I hardly ever use followers so keep forgetting they can magically transport through things and actually open doors.

just a thought but did you try telekenisis to bring the ring close enough to grab through the bars or fus ro dah it to make it land by the bars?

what about using the wooden bowl/whirlwind glitch?

I've heard those arguements before, and they don't work. The game is not largely bug free either. But, I'm not here to argue about the incompetence of Bethesda. I was just throwing in my thoughts on the OP.

You cannot use shouts, spells or objects to pull or even move the chain, and why glitch through the gate when you can just get your trusty follower to open it?

I hit this bug as well, except I defeated Yngol and the gate wouldn't open... that svcked. lol

It's my opinion, you can't say my opinion doesn't work. The game is relatively bug free for such a large game.
