RogueAssassin. Magicka or Not?

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 9:52 am

I play a super stealthy assassin, just sneaking, backstabbing, dual yielding daggers, etc. most of my points so far are in Sneak.

I'm just wondering, when I level up, should I spend any points at all in Magicka?

OK, BEFORE YOU ANSWER, I've read multiple "builds" on this, and what's recommended is a:

20% Magicka
60% Health
20% Stamina

But, I just don't get the %20 into Magicka?

Anyone else with any input/suggestions?

Thanks!

A delicious, and needed bite of bump. Any feedback from the pros?

Illusion = Invisibility = Super sneaky kills. :)

I know that's not what you're asking, but a lot of those illusion spells work great for an assassin. It could also be for restoration for when that one x30 DB-powered sneak attack isn't quite enough and your target gets a piece of you.

See, If I do my assassin/sneaky job right I should need next to no health because they won't know what hit 'em until they're dead or I disappear into the mist to wait for my next attempt - I have 100 Sneak, 100 Illusion, and 100 Alteration and I rarely take any damage whatsoever.

Thx for your input!

Does anyone else have an opinion on Magicka for a rogue/assassin? Is it worth investing points into Magicka?

Thanks!

My next build will be a Rogue type. I intend to use Illusion and Restoration magic. I've never played a rogue type before, should be interesting.

I think Illusion is a must, but that's me and my love of magic in games. Not using any magic feels wrong.

Invisibility is a good one, obviously.
Also can utilize ...

Alteration Spells:
Magelight- cast a Ball of light that lasts 60 seconds and sticks where it strikes. Can use it for lighting up things in distance, giving you more shadows to sneak.
Mass Paralysis - All targets in the area that fail to resist are paralyzed for 15 seconds.
Telekinesis - Can pull an object to you from a distance. Add it to your inventory or throw it.
And some others maybe...

Conjuration spells....perhaps use them as Tanks for you, diversions..
Illusion Spells....

Clairvoyance - show path to goal
Muffle.... silence/muffle footsteps for 180 sec.

Could possibly utilize any really. Restoration... for heals and wards. Destruction.... give you just a bit more damage.

Illusion lets you see in the dark, confuse your enemies when you are spotted, and go invisible for a ninja-like vanish. Before you go head on into magic, I'd advise archery. Archery lets you take people out from a distance without exposing yourself so you can continue to get sneak bonuses on confused but semi alerted people. Magic has no bonus sneak damage and pulls you out of sneaking. You also can't poison magic.

I use Alteration's Detect Life to get a quick sense of how many enemies are about. If there's only one I use Invisibility to get in position for a sneak attack. If there are lots, I cast Mayhem to get them fighting each other and then cast invisibility and watch them fight to the last man. Then I get into position for a sneak attack and...

Mayhem is awesome. I cast it at noon in the middle of Riften and managed to kill most of the town without getting any bounties.

I definitely agree that archery is a must-have, though, and I'd get that before I do much in magic.
