Roleplaying a guard

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 6:42 pm

So my internet was being stupid so I stopped playing BF3 and put in Skyrim. I have become a bit bored with Skyrim so I thought of doing something different. I was sorting through my inventory on one of my characters and saw a guard helmet. This inspired me to make a new character and roleplay him as a Whiterun guard. So I made my Nord and rushed to whiterun, turned the difficulty to novice, jacked up a guard and stole his stuff and then I patrolled the roads.

I actually found playing this character fun. I encountered a Redguard milk drinker, a Khajiit drug dealer, a few bandits and wolves, and Talsgar the Wanderer along my travels within 2 hours of playing. I have expended my character to doing jobs for the Jarl of Whiterun and seeking out and taking out bandits. Everything I do I roleplay that it is a job I have. I also got Sven as a follower and dressed him up as a Whiterun guard as well so I have a partner.

Anyone ever do anything like this? I find its a fun little RP like being a Khajiit caravan guard. Right now I am going to go get some Solitude guard armor and pretend I got a job there.

Hehe that does seem like a neat idea. I'd like to give it a try, but I do tend to get bored easily, and my RP sessions taper off. What about moving on to a different city when you're bored? maybe I'd RP as a 'specialized' guard who Jarls could hire onto their guard and in exchange I improve the city and help train the guards? Hm. I think eventually I'd find a reason for my city guard to inevitably inspect a dungeon, especially with Lydia along.

Let's see here, this contract says these bandits about a mile ahead must di- is that a cave? Should we go in?
I suppose we could take a peek.
Before I know it, I'm no longer RPing and just playing Skyrim again.

Thats my idea. I started out in Whiterun and word spread about my talent so I was given a job in Solitude. Going to do some jobs around there then move on down to Markath probably.

I have the same issue you have with roleplaying. It really is tempting to explore those caves. I guess my character felt adventerous. :P

It would be great if there were more "radiant" quests associated with each town.

Its a nice idea. I think I'd have to agree though, I might wander astray and before I even know it, I'd have Daedric.

I RP'd a guard in Oblivion, but it will probably be easier since guards patrol the the hold. I was thinking about doing it before I started on my Imperial battlemage who rivals Arctus Zurin.

I really like smithing to help remedy the issue of having weak gear. I still never understood why people want it nerfed. Dont like it dont use it, but as it is it can help with these kind of roleplays, especially on the higher difficulties.

So, did you play the game normally until you took the first arrow in the knee? Otherwise, you're doing it wrong.

Haha that sounds fun.

I should give it a try.

Too bad you can't officially work as a guard for Whiterun and arrest people.

How about playing as a Guard that is also apart of the thieves guild?

End up planting evidence then arresting people or something.

Would be fun.
