So I screwed up

Post » Mon Feb 04, 2013 11:32 am

Ok, I read Waking Dreams for the first time when I discovered it (when Miraak recognizes you as Dragonborn and then kicks you out of Apocrypha).

I read it for the second time before I was supposed to (hadn't yet activated he quest by getting to the part where HM kills the skall shaman). Because I read it prematurely, I only got so far, realized that I could not progress until later in the MQ, so I left Apocrypha, went back to Solstheim and continued adventuring until I got to the right part of the MQ.

Problem is, now when I read Waking Dreams-nothing happens-I am not transported to Apocrypha and am not able to complete the MQ

Please tell me there is something that I am missing, and I have not screwed up a character I have put 118 hours into.

Huh... that's odd. Have you tried returning to Solstheim from the Waking Dream level of Apocrypha, reading a different Black Book, returning from there, and reading Waking Dreams again? Also, have you gotten to the part where Hermaeus Mora teaches you the third word for Bend Will? Also, I know this is probably a painful option, but have you tried loading a save since before you prematurely read Waking Dreams? Couldn't blame you if such a save had already been overwritten; I generally keep three active saves, myself, and I just rewrite the oldest save each time I need to save the game. Still, if one is available, it might be worth a shot. Good luck to you sir!

PS: Is that Mads Mikkelsen from Valhalla Rising?

Yes I have learned and unlocked Bend Will shout. I have opened a few other Black Books since realizing my mistake with reading Waking Dreams prematurely.

I don't have a save that goes back to before the I've when I opened waking dreams.

I may be screwed......

I have a bunch of saves, just not one that goes that far back. I have probably logged over 15 hours of gaming since I realized that I went into the Waking Dreams book early. I didn't realize that it would cause problems if I tried to enter the book again for a third time, so I kept going and saving new saves over old ones.

I have done everything I was supposed to to advance to this quest...please tell me I didn't screw up the whole Dragonborm main quest by reading the book prematurely...anyone?

Have you tried opening it in the Skaal village? That is where you are told to go back in. Talk to Frea again (think that was her name) and see if she tells you to go back in to the book and finish Miraak. That may retrigger the quest.

Did it and it did not work. I think I am resigned to start a new character...

That's actually quite odd, OP.

I went and read the book again immediately after Miraak booted me out of Apocrypha (pausing only long enough to let the game load properly), and it took me into Waking Dreams' chapters and I progressed all the way through it. IIRC, this is the one with the Word Wall in it, isn't it? Either way, I got to the end and received the special prize.

There were no unsolvable puzzles, just some Seekers that showed right on time to die.

I wouldn't delete the character just yet. It is possible that they will patch DB around the PC release and it may correct this issue. At least we can hope. You would think that after you took the book back from the Shaman it would be reset.

Did you try to read waking dream while in Skyrim? Because you can't read it in Skyrim, you have to be on the island.
