Should I Install Skyrim to my Hard Drive? (Xbox 360)

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 6:14 am

I haven't gotten my copy yet (three-day shipping from Newegg) but I was wondering if, once I receive Skyrim, if I should install it to my hard drive? Because I am rather confused - does it make the game look better or worse? Does it make it more or less likely that there will be texture issues? Thanks for you help!

Don't. Wait for official conformation from Bethesda.

Yes, apparently it looks like crap when not installed.

It's supposed to make the game better, but there's a texture bug or something causing problems for people that install it.

I'd install it, hopefully the patch to fix the problem is being worked on.

Are there any advantages to installing it to your hardrive? If not then you probably shouldn't do it, since I've been hearing it can cause texture problems.

It prolongs the life of your console.

I say this with some authority as I'm on my 8th XB360.

Alright, I'll just sit tight and wait for an official word from Bethesda. :)

i am going to. because i do that with all of the 360 games because it easier on the console and the disc will last longer too. so go for it

I will just as soon as the problem is fixed. I don't want to run the risk of screwing something up.

8th? I've only ever installed 1 game and I'm only on 360 #2. And the only reason I got a new one was for the slim with the 250gig HDD.

Sounds like some user error or terrible luck.

Think of it this way, If you install it the environment will look better up close when you get really really close to rocks and buildings, On the other hand things like armor and weapons that are always in your face will look bad all the time no matter the distance. Its your choice.

It puts less wear and tear on the disk drive its self, It quiets down the console quite a bit, and it also cuts load times down on most games (textures will load faster).
I think the cd still needs to be in the drive though. Since textures are on the hard drive they won't always be being pulled from the cd.

I will for sure (keeps console quiet and really does improve performance for open world games such as this), and then hope I get no texture problems. It seems some people do not get it so fingers crossed.

I think the people who ''do not get it'' just don't notice it, seems very sloppy from beth to me.

It's pissed me off. How the hell could they let a bug like this slip through? I'm not impressed at all. As for the patch, well, the patch that is available at this time doesn't fix the issue. So when are they going to fix this issue?

I bought my Xbox360 Elite 160gb with Fable 2 about 4 years ago and it's still running even if it has collected dust. And yes, I've installed every single game I've bought, since I couldn't stand the noise the drive was making when I started playing Fable 2.

I have it installed to my hard drive and have never had the texture issues. Maybe it's because I got the Xbox 360 S.
