SKYRIM WONT PLAY WITHOUT UPDATE?

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 1:04 am

BS Bethesda, UTTER BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The update messes the game up. It was fine before. So I clear my cache, and now it says I can't load without the patch.

And trying to load previous saves freezes the console.

Wow. This is the dumbest thing ever. I would have thought a game company would want to keep users, not make it so they can't play.

The saves were from 1.1 and 1.2 so it cannot be run on an unpatched game. svcks I know.

There better be some kinda compensation for us who payed $60 for a game that doesn't work not even three weeks later.

I mean, I bought an X-Box 360 because Oblivion was cool, even with the bugs, but at least it could still be played... $60 for a game that becomes unplayable after a few weeks is just bad business.

Just have to wait until they fix it. Hopefully the patch that fixes this patch doesn't screw the game up even more

You don't have one single save from before you downloaded 1.2?

Really, you can work around it.

And YES... For $60, and the game doesn't work after three weeks, due to an action taken by the company, NOT by me, YES, that is grounds for some kind of compensation or legal action. It may be small scale in legal terms, but to provide someone with a product and then practically take it away from a bunch of users... I'm sure I'm not the only one... That is theft!

Just go to the link I posted, it will tell you how to get patch version 1.1 back, and you can use a save from before you installed 1.2.

Obviously the definition of "compensation" escapes you, especially amidst mocking somebody for paying for the game.

But hey, guys! Guys! Stop posting about bugs! They are just mistakes! Stop posting. Just mistakes. It's okay. Calling them mistakes makes it okay.

Seriously guys.

Helan: Who's mocking? Not me, I paid $60 for the game. I had to save to fit it into my budget. I'm out $60 if they don't fix it! Seriously, do YOU know what compensation is?

Lotharofthehillpeople: Your first link leads to a forum thread full of stuff that is vague, and I honestly don't know what's being said... Somethings about pulling the hard drive, a left corner of something... Left corner of what, I have no clue?... And a bunch of button presses about something.
Could you please explain the process in terms a normal human would understand, not in vague terms that assume the person knows what you're talking about.
And NO, I'm not being sarcastic with that comment. I'm not too tech friendly.

Compensation is you returning the game to them instead of pocketing $60 and then receiving a better update that makes the game better.

Nonetheless, the difference is you are being a crybaby. You're rude.

If I went to the drive-thru of a fastfood restaurant and ordered something and they messed up my order, I would return and tell them they made a mistake. I would not yell at them because that is common courtesy and I have manners. They'll fix my order.

See the difference? No? If not, this is why you fail.

Do YOU know how to read who it was I was quoting and directing my comments towards? Do YOU know how to differentiate your own name from that of others'? Do YOU have the capacity to read before you post?

You mean, the difference (aside from your terrible failure of an anology) in the fact that you didn't accept the order and then they came along and "fixed" it by dumping something you didn't want all over your meal? Or that, after doing so, you have no idea when you would get a new meal? Or that, in filling out a feedback card at the restaurant, you have some loudmouth standing at the feedback box harping at everyone with anything negative to say, filling the air with his absolutely worthless whining in whatever way he can, dedicating his time solely to complaining about people complaining, with no sense of irony in telling people he has manners while being a condescending ponce who tells others they fail and bending his words to avoid the profanity filter and throwing the word "crybaby" around like a verbal warhammer, trying to bludgeon it against anything and everything that confronts his meager, pitiable sense of self-righteousness?

Something like that? Whether you get the reference or not, your failure is pretty clear.

And what are you doing right now? Shoot, what have you been doing the whole time? Flapping your own gums. It's funny, because we kinda see eye-to-eye on things and how people react to the patch and bugs, yet you just get joy from spewing all kinds of nonsense towards anyone; everyone really. I won't argue here. If you have a problem, PM me.

I do apologize to everyone in this thread, this is not my normal operating attitude, and you all have the right to get mad at me, and I will not lash back at it.

I came here pissed off, and vented.... But in the long run, I just hope they fix it soon, cause I can't play till they do, and I'm loving the game.

No, I was not using full manners, I am aware of this... I'm usually the guy trying to politly talk people down when they are freaking, so I do understand and I apologize.

Bethesda is an amazing company in regards to the work and effort they put into things. This one update should've been researched and checked over a little more before coming out though.

Obviously you don't get it.

I would never dare encroach upon your nonsense-spewing, it's obviously something you work very tediously at. And here you are on the H&S Issues forums, doing your best to discourage people from talking about their issues. Nonsense indeed.

lol, shows your negative attitude. I'm not discouraging people against mentioning issues, I'm encouraging them to approach the issues in a kind manner. Nice try. :slap:

THAT LINK is for digal downloads NOT for physical disc,ALL the TOU's in the world companies come up will NEVER override costumer rights, which will depend on the state or country you live in.
In PA the BBB will back up a costumer for a broken product (NOT OF THEIR OWN DOING)
BUT to sue over this you need a lawyer willing to take it,and with-in the states it would help if you had it set up as a CLASS ACTION(meaning getting alot of people together to sue with you)
The issue is everyone cried about minor issues(i.e.=textures that for real didn't effect game play that much that it wasn't unplayable)
PEOPLE should have been crying about all the quest lines that are broken which DO make the game unplayable.

I seen crying about an arrow being stuck in you that wouldn't go away(please did it stop the game, most texture issues can be fixed by INSTALLING TITLE ON YOUR XBOX,BUT then you got the cheap gamers that won't get a larger harddrive and insist on playing titles right from disc.

A PATCH TO FIX ALL THE BROKEN STORY LINES IS WHATS NEEDED (deal with some texture issues, and PC players really need to shut up,everytime you clowns cry about a title they patch it for PC and us console players pay the price as we get an update that screws our system over)
WHY DON'T YOU SO-CALLED REAL GAMERS(PC ER'S) TRY PLAYING THE GAME WITHOUT THE NEED TO MOD THE GAME.

Darkhour - if still haven't fixed, try this - http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1298293-want-patch-11-back-this-might-work/ :
Well I know how to apply older updates to games on the xbox.
It's a bit involved but there's a nice tutorial from yahoo answers here:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20111119103542AAwLMWn

Basically you format a thumb drive for the xbox, clear your cache, download the 1.1 update and transfer it to your thumb drive on your PC.
Then you pop in the thumb drive and run the game.
In order to read an xbox formatted thumb drive on your PC you need a program called horizon. (www.xboxmb.com/horizon/)
There may be others but that is the one I use.

You can find the older skyrim updates here:
http://www.xbuc.net/?searchString=skyrim

This is the update you want I believe: 49A1477A
You can see it's from the 20th, while the first patch listed is from today.

Now I'm at work and haven't tested this so I don't know if it will work, but in theory it seems like it should.
- Thanks jviex5k

Reports of this working so far.

Also, there were posts I saw on another thread I saw yesterday on getting 1.2 to fix texture issue (for SOME people, at least, without reporting other glitches. 1.2 issues may be related to something in previous save/patch data?) - http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1297950-still-having-texture-problems/ :
HOLY [censored]. I fixed my texture issues! Try this, if you're desperate and want to attempt to get the best textures possible.

1) Delete all Skyrim content from your Xbox HDD, or move it to another location. (where you will be installing the game and placing 'saves')
2) Format your HDD.
3) Clear the HDD's cache.
4) Play Skyrim from the disk and install the 1.2 patch. (I personally played the 'intro' and got out into the open world before trying the next step (5), during which my textures became crap once more)
5) Exit the game, and then install your Skyrim to your HDD of choice.
6) Move any old Skyrim saves and such over to the same HDD that your install is on.
7) Start Skyrim up once more, and check to see if your textures are high quality. (the best way to do this is to check your character's hands, I've found)

The above personally worked for me - I wish others who are having the same issues the best of luck and hope, if they try the above, that it works for them too!

4GB Xbox here, just in-case you were wondering.
- Thanks Gaunty for this.

Hope some of these help, I haven't tested myself or DL'd 1.2 yet as I've been mostly glitch-free and can live with the textures until I want to chance putting in the legwork for either of these fixes.

Take care.

How is the game unplayable on 1.2? I updated it and it is very playable. You guys are the biggest crybabies I've ever seen. I came from the ps3 version so I know what an unplayable skyrim looks like.

Thats nothing bethesda did on purpose. I've had it happen with a few other games. By clearing your cache, your removing the first patch as well, thats whats screwing you, the first patch is usually mostly technical stuff, it could even fix a bug that doesn't let you load saves. It likely changes enough that your save isn't compatible with an unpatched game. Personally I unplugged my ethernet cable from my xbox. And while its ridiculous that I have to do that in order to avoid a patch, I've encountered hardly any bugs, and definitely no game breaking ones, on version 1.1, and I get no texture issues while playing off a flash drive. If you downloaded patch 2 I would advise just playing with it, you'll likely have more bugs if you play with no patches at all.
