Started playing a warrior Nord and was curious. I know trying to stealth in heavy armor is nearly impossible (at least in the start from what I've know) but if I switch to light armor can I use a light armor shield and still not be detected?

I think I remember from a video that anything held in hands (except dagger and bow) has penalties for sneaking..
