I think the massive variation of this low-texture bug is simply due to some overlooked coding during development. This is NOT a 360 HDD sourced problem ,it is a bug within the game which is manifesting differently between copies. I installed the game (on my 360) and had low textures straight away - most prominent was on my characters hands. I tried uninstalling and playing from disk and if anything it was actually worse with some nasty jarring cropping up and some funky looking shadows along with the low-textures. I then installed to my separate USB and again I was afflicted with some nasty looking textures pretty much everywhere at this point. I decided to reinstall to my HDD and carry on and just try not to stare at those low-textures, but suddenly things started to improve. My characters hands now look normal, the items in my menu look great and character clothing looks defined now. So whereas others on this forum started out with high-res textures which eventually deteriorated, I myself and I suspect many others have experienced the complete opposite. However, I must add that the walls, especially in Windhelm seem to be suffering the most and not improving. I don't think I've seen low-res graphics like this in a while on a 360 release. Oblivion textures were better than what I am seeing here, so I'm guessing this is not what Bethesda intended, and that Windhelm is simply suffering heavily from this in-game graphics bug. It is also worth mentioning that this is NOT exclusive to the 360, I have seen the exact same low-res graphics on PS3 and have also played a copy of Skyrim on a PC boasting a rather superb spec (rich friends with large amounts of time - swine!) and again the exact same low-res textures were present. I really hope Bethesda treat this as an issue spread across all systems rather than trying to sort out some supposed 360 HDD link, which I fear might not actually be the route of the problem here. In fact it quite blatantly is not a 360 HDD issue, seeing as these same problems ARE occurring on PS3 versions (albeit slightly less often from what I see) *scratches head*.
