HD Textures causing game to crash when loading saved file.

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 2:25 pm

Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 32-bit
System Model: XFX Nforce 680i LT
Processor: Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 (x2, SLI, 1Gb each,Latest Drivers)
Display Memory: 1888 MB
Dedicated Memory: 993 MB
Shared Memory: 895 MB

All mods disabled/removed.

Game runs fine with default settings (High setings).

When I turn on the HD tectures and try to load a game, it will either crash to destop or sit at the loading screen for ever (waited 10 min). When it sits at loading I have to close with Task Manager. Task Manager lists the program as "Not Responding".

Determining usable display memory in SLI is not as simple as adding the two cards together, AFAIK.

The problems seem to be with 32-bit systems, which you have. I'd be curious to see if you can play for any length of time. I can only get about 30 seconds. Some only about 1 minute before CtD.

2x 1gb cards in SLI on a 32bit OS = 1.75gb of available Physical ram for skyrim and the OS... about 512mb minimum for the OS leaving the game with below system recommend requirements.

i'm surprised the game didn't crash prior to even the HD pack.

you have 4gb of ram.. but only 1.75gb of it is useable..

your REALLY in need of 64bit OS

Wow, people realy need to read my second post.

Problem fixed. It works.

Listing 4gb of ram as a requirement is already compensating for the OS. The 32 bit OS is not the problem since it is working fine now.

The OS does not use 512 MB of ram either.

i am well aware of your issue being "resolved" but this doesn't discount that fact that it randomly and unexpectedly occured...

i was mentioning further details for the fact that your current computer configuration is totally inefficient and prone to being problematic... more so in the future...

it's like purchasing a 55" 1080p tv.. then just using only about 20" of it for standard definition content.... what's the point? All the other components are going to waste, unused and untouched just consuming power without any reason.

Your problem, i just made a suggestion that it would be a wise idea to fix it.. and you should notice considerable improvements due to the move.

Lastly, the OS itself isolated may not use 512mb of ram.. but the additional services and other components that make up the memory system, will most definitely eat up 512mb minimum.... then again considering you've only got about 1.75gb of useable physical memory... windows will be trying to choke itself just to give skyrim let alone a few programs room to play. Actually all programs will be trying their best to fit into such a tight space.
