The Drinking Game: Where is that Sam guy?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 9:33 am

Hey guys and gals!

So I read on the Wiki that when you get to level 14 that Sam shows up in the nearest Tavern for that Drinking Contest and Quest. I totally didn't know about it until now and I'm level 40-something. How can I meet up with Sam and do that Contest and Quest now? Thanks all!

I think you have to wait and he'll show up randomly. I actually finished this quest just now and was about to make a thread about it. :P

I found him at the Bannered Mare last night late (real-world time) and finished it just now. F-ing hilarious quest.

It should be in your journal if you've already met Sam and just ignored him.

If you haven't met him, then I'm afraid you need to check all the taverns ;) Do you remember where you leveled up to 14? Whiterun, Riverwood or Ivarstead are most likely; WInterhold if you're a mage, Riften if a thief. But that's just a guess.

He showed up for me at the Winking Skeever, this afternoon. This was on my second (level 20) character. My first (who reached level 49 or thereabouts) didn't see him at all.

Yeah, I really haven't been to anywhere but Whiterun, Falkreath and JUST made it to Winterhold at level 40. Think he's in Whiterun, then?

I only found him at level 40 something. I may not have talked to him if he was in the pub before.

The Wikia says: "In any tavern across Skyrim it is possible to encounter an NPC named Sam Guevenne." so I think it's random, but, like Rosveen suggested, could have something to do with where you hit 14; however, unless you're Rain Man, you probably don't remember that.

You don't find Sam. Sam finds you. If you walk by him in a tavern, he'll speak to you first. He found me at the Bannered Mare in Whiterun. :tes:

I didn't really suggest that; it's what both UESP and TES wiki say, and the level at which all of my characters met Sam. The choice of location is still random AI at work, so it might be possible that some people will meet him at higher levels. I don't know if level 14 is scripted.

Well I really don't want to start a new character right now just to meet the guy. I'll just hope to run into him later, although I don't visit the Taverns much unless I'm looking for the odd bandit-cleanup job.

If you've been to Whiterun a lot, then check the Bannered Mare. He's a rather innocuous NPC, you may not have noticed him. :)

He shows up randomly in any tavern across Skyrim and wears a black robe. I had to visit like 6-8 taverns and wait a long time before he even showed up in my playthrough. So be patient. And also, make sure you sit in a chair where you have a good view of the entire room so you can see him easily.

I know. I'm sorry if what I wrote seemed too harsh. All I meant to say is that level 14 wasn't my discovery :)
