I started the quest "find the copy of the legendary scourge". The thing is, though, is that I found it way back when I started the game. The book is in my inventory, but the quest marker is over the same chest I first found it in and the librarian at the mage college won't acknowledge that I have the book (it's in my inventory).

Since it's a quest item I can't drop it or put it back in the chest.

Any help? What should/do I do to fix this?

Are you on the PC? if so, you can type help scourge 0 in the console. That will show the baseID of the book. Then you click on the chest, type additem xxxxx 1 and... now you can get the new book from the same chest.

Had that happening to me too with a different book. Luckily i play on pc

It doesn't weigh anything so it's cool...

Did you try putting the book in the chest? Will it let you do that if it is a quest item?
