Honestly, OP, if you like the series then continue enjoying it and screw what everyone else thinks. If I had a dollar for every time I read a post bashing Fallout 3 (my 2nd favorite game) on this forum in the 2 1/2 years I've been here I'd be thousands of dollars richer. Eventually I just wound up accepting the fact that it's virtually impossible to read a discussion on Fallout 3 here without someone hating on it, and, as a result, I've stopped reading said discussions. All that matters is that I like the game, Bethesda will eventually release another Fallout game, and I will like that too. Knowing what the rest of the fanbase thinks serves no purpose to me other than to aggravate me and spoil my enjoyment of the series. This is the attitude you should take. Dwelling on all the COD hate is a waste of your time. Every other person on earth could hate COD but all that matters in your life is that you enjoy it.
If I had a DIME for every person bashing JRPGs on these forums, I'd be far FAR richer then you with your dollar for every-time someone bashes FO3. ^^ I will agree with you though, if you like something, who cares what other people think about the series? I love JRPGs, nothing is ever going to sway me from that. I love corny movies, like The Cable Guy, which every person I've ever met swears up and down it's the worst movie ever made and Jim Carrey must have been on drugs to agree to do it. Personally, I think it's freaking hilarious and one of his best movies by far ^^. I can't stand CoD games, but then again, I can't stand 95% of shooters, it's just not my style of game. On the other hand, my best friend loves CoD, though he can't stand playing it with people besides those in our group of friends.
TL:DR Play what you enjoy, enjoy what you play.
