A tip for people who don't know

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 8:54 pm

With destruction spells like "flames" or "sparks" where you're supposed to hold the button down to do damage per second, you can do more damage for less magicka if instead of holding down on the button you tap it repeatedly. Because during the intervals after an enemy has been hit by the spell, it takes extra burn damage or shock damage. But if you're holding down the button the enemy doesn't take the extra damage until you let go of the trigger. Sorry if a lot of you already knew about this.

Also, this same principle works for restoration spells as well. Doing this is really helpful, especially for low level characters with limited amount of magicka.

Not sure if true to be honest. I know that enemies set on fire take some extra damage, but how do you know they don't take that damage as you burn them?

And restoration... when you let go of the heal button you stop healing. So I don't know what tapping should achieve.

Better damage per mana, but less damage per second. I think you also get more chance to skillup but dont quote me on it.

Because I've tested it myself, I can kill I draugr twice as fast and for half the magicka just by using this method. See for yourself.

The problem with destruction is not damage over time, but that it generally doesn't do enough damage against higher level enemies or comparred to melee or archery.

You swing Daedric sword every second for 72 damage, I cast two Fireballs every second for 120 damage. Do tell me more.

The OP is correct. The spell description even hints at this: the target takes more damage if already on fire.

It may be a bug that the channeling must be stopped before the target is considered to be "on fire".

Another tip: Wards rock. I use Fire Wards all the time. They are like AOE fire mines, and blow the [censored] out of stuff. Great spell!

Hm, then the question is: do you get skill XP for burning enemies? Or only from direct damage from flames?

By the time you have another two fireballs ready, ehich should take aout 2-3 seconds, the sword have added another 144-216 damage.

Plus I have a Draugr Greatsword that does well over 100 points of damage, without any enchantments on the weapon or me that add to damage, just from smithing and having a 99 in 2 hand

I have a glass 1 hand sword that does well over 80 damage per swing, and at the same time, I'm casting a destruction spell with the other hand, on another character. That other character can also dual wield two glass swords that do over 80 damage each

DPS can be pretty high for a warrior. But you need to be close to your target

And your sword isn't ranged. Bows are, you say? Yes, but no area of effect for multiple enemies.

There's no 'better' or 'worse', just different. These arguments get so old.

Tdroid... the end result is that the target dies. Why are you so worried about which method kills them fastest?

One cast every second. And Fireball is an Adept level spell; 72 damage is Master setup.

The more times that you cast a spell the more xp you get. If you dual wield flames and cast one in each hand one after another by tapping them, you will gain more xp then you would if you held them down. And I believe that the more damage a spell does the more XP it gives you for the spell's usage.
