Two atronachs vs Dremora Lord

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 7:02 am

Hello!

After watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnHQ1ISQCcI I get the feeling that generally the Dremora Lord is the summon of choice. Is this the general consensus?

Furthermore, the poster of the video made a few claims:

"@ba11istik I can confirm that Dremora Lord is affected by the following perks:
Summoner (range of summoning)
Atromancy (doubles duration of summon)
Twin Souls (can summon 2 at a time, or 1 and another summon)
I'm about 80% sure that Elemental Potency does NOT affect it, from testing? I did. I could be wrong though.
As for Necromancy? and Dark Souls, Necromancy does nothing, and Dark Souls I haven't tested but I'm almost certain it does nothing either. Hope this helps.

Can anyone refute or confirm this?
Also mentioning any other perks that benefit the Dremora Lord would be great.

As no one replied to my thread I did the research my self.

I can comfirm after testing that:

Summoner (range of summoning)
Atromancy (doubles duration of summon)
Twin Souls (can summon 2 at a time, or 1 and another summon)

does affect the Dremora Lord, and that
Elemental Potency (+50% power) does NOT affect it

Test was done with Conjuration 100, level 20, in a fight with 1 dremora lord vs 1 giant. 10 test cases were done with each setting.

I am curious how much time does the dremora lord need to kill the giant ?
Did you try the flamme/storm thrall? how do they compare versus the dremora lord?

You can summon two Dremora Lords?...

Welp, I was only going to put 5 perks in Conjuration. There goes that build.

Wow, this was insane. The difference between the dremora lord and the other summons was huge! Granted, the other summons have ranged attacks, which will help in a lot of situations (ie. fighting dragons, lots of enemies that are far apart, etc) but this is still pretty convincing.

How does this compare to the reanimated corpse/death thrall spells? I have heard that you can have the death thrall use your own weapons (by giving it to them before you resurrect them). Do you think this would make the death thrall even better?

Thanks but I already knew that you can summon two dremora, what I was asking is that since flammes thrall require 100skill AND a quest, it would be a shame if it was weaker than the dremora one on one.

I think that's it's useful to perk into Astronachs and the Draemoras because of situational fighting.

It IS weaker, but that is not why it is a 100 skill point spell. It is only as powerful as the apprentice level flame atronach spell, but it takes 100 skill because it lasts indefinitely. Thus, you do not need to spend a ton of magicka at the start of a fight using it. This is a big benefit and a big convenience.

In the few rare cases (2 of of 20) where the dremora lord actually manages to kill the giant it took 18-20 seconds.

To compare with the storm thrall, which was the summon I used for reference (it had the +50% perk):

A single lord would in general bring the giant down to 33%hp before dying.

2 storm thralls (with +50% perk) were involved in 4 test cases where they brought the giant down to:

1) 5%
2) 25%
3) 0
4) 10%

The percentages are not exact as they are measured by eye.

I'll gladly perform any other testing if there is any interest. Just let me know.

This is in my case easily solved by constantly summoning before a fight is initiated. Sure it will take a few reloads in some cases but is it worth that much in order to avoid a few reloads to prepare for a fight?

thanks a lot but that's pretty terrible as far as damage goes, I thought they were much higher dps than that, what difficulty was that on? Did you try the flammes thrall? are they any good?I am more interested in them because they look so goergous.

I play on Master difficulty. At least compared to the atronachs the dremora lords dps is good, even when he's matched against 2 of with Elemental Potency. I can't remember exactly how long but it took at least 30 seconds for the storm atronachs to bring down the giant.
That's with all the kiting though, perhaps if they were left alone to spam their abilities it would look differently.

2 flame atronachs (with Elemental Potency) brought, in the three test cases I tried, the giant down to between 60 and 80 % of it's health before the atronachs fell.

You can defnitely summon two dremora lords, I've been doing it forever. And yes, Dremora's pack the most powerful punch of any summon, but they aren't all that durable. Durable enough, though.
