Um, I'm curious at to whether there is a definitive answer to this!

Sovngarde translates to "sleep guard". The dreamsleeve both precedes life and follows it at its termination. Its where one gets recycled. Vehk says dying is a lot like going to sleep. As is being a god. Ergo, the sleep guard is probably what the Nords dream about when they die.

Really, I think it was proweler who worked it out. He might have other shreds of evidence too, but that was the gist of it, and the dream sleeve/ sleep guard similarities kind of speak for themselves.

Personally, i think not.
Shor/LHRKHN -created- it. LHRKHN is [ruined]. sovngarde is [ruined]. it's tethers snapped with the destruction of the heart. death is flux again, so to speak.
Of course, I still ahve yet to figure out how NIRN can still exist with LHRKHN [dismembered] and MAGNUS having flown the coop just before construction of LHRKHN's [beloved] plane.

Death has always been flux, the 'destruction' of the Heart didn't affect it. You might even go so far as to say that death is the flux, originally even...

I doubt that you have to leave. Dunmer ancestor worship seems to suggest that one can stay in the world beyond to better watch over the living.
