In regard to skills being cut and the true effect on character customization, I'd like to post some math.

Morrowind: With 10 major skills out of 30, there are 30,045,015 possible skill combinations.*

Oblivion: With 7 out of 21, there are 116,280 combinations*, 0.38% of Morrowind.

Hypothetical scenario A: With 6 out of 18, there are 18,564 combinations*, 15.9% of Oblivion, and 0.00006% of Morrowind.

Hypothetical scenario B: With 5 out of 15, there are 3,003 combinations*, 16.1% of Hypothetical scenario A, 2.58% of Oblivion, and 0.000009% of Morrowind.

Oblivion cut 7 skills from Morrowind. So, just cutting 3 more skills from Oblivion's already somewhat-empty palette will cut character possibilities by nearly 85% than what was present in Oblivion. Cutting 6 more skills from Oblivion will cut character possibilities by nearly 98% than what was present in Oblivion.

*Formula used to calculate combinations:
C = (n! / (r!(n - r)!) where C = the amount of combinations, n = the number of possible things to choose from, and r = the number of things chosen out of the possible things to choose from. The (!) means http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Factorial.

I was deliberately giving my melee-oriented classes in Oblivion additional Major Skills I knew I'd never use (such as Alteration) just because 7 made it too easy!

If it's an MMO, that would keep me from buying it. Was a big fan of the "Knights or the old Republic" games, and had for a long time been waiting for the third installment to come out until i heard it was an MMO, Now i wouldn't play it if i was payed to.

TES is probably by far my favorite game line, the depth of it, the lore, the history, the easy of immersing one's self into that game world, things that disappear with MMOs. That's probably the only real thing that would keep my from buying TES V, it being an MMO would ruin my day  heh.

If it's multiplayer, I won't buy it.

If there is anything online, I won't buy it.

Securom ---- I'm serious I would boycott it till there was a "workaround"
Any other nasty copy protection
Console exclusive -this would make me flame the game more than anyone could comprehend. I didn't wait and suggest this long just to not be able to play the game.

I don't care if it's heavily bugged just so long as we get patches.

I didn't find Oblivion lacking in character customization. I was able to create a number of characters without trouble.

If they removed the guilds altogether.

If There was only the main quest line

cities are tiny.

It takes place in a province we have already seen (unless we get to visit all the provinces).

No mods (i may be getting a good PC this year)

No console version (but, never know what might happen, i may have to spend money on something more important)

They compact the skills even more

remove class and fighting specialization.

And if its a MMO (If wow is anything to go by, it will end up being a constant flame and troll fest)

Really, if they remove any more skills, there practically won't be any. We might as well just consolidate to an "attack" skill, just as Oblivion consolidated Long Blade, Short Blade, Axe, and Blunt Weapons to "Blade and Blunt", dropping spears off the map entirely. We went from 30 Morrowind skills (10 skill for the three archetypes) to 21 Oblivion skills (7 skills for the three archetypes). And it becomes readily apparent in Oblivion that the limitation of skills is a ridiculous strain to character customization; characters just don't feel complete. You can only stretch those 21 skills so far. I can't imagine if they were to cut down to 18 or 15, with 6 or 5 skills per archetype.

But would you still not buy the game for this particular reason?

PS3 exclusive, because I AM NOT BUYING ANOTHER CONSOLE.

EDIT:
This is what Bethesda used to think. I don't know when that changed.

I loved the Daggerfall manual. It made Daggerfall; Daggerfall. But I'd very much like it if exploration was not encouraged.

If it was a console exclusive. What do developers get out of making eg. Xbox 360 exclusives? Then PS3 and PC players won't buy it. It makes no sense to me.

I would not buy TESV if they waited till Fallout 5 was done before they even made an anouncement. Im not waiting that long, Beth can go screw its self if that happens.

If they made an MMO, I would not buy it. I wouldn't even follow the series anymore. Wanna know the reason? Look at WoW's lore. It "evolves." Last I heard, they are completely destroying some areas. An MMO would completely destroy all of the wonderful TES lore, and that's the biggest reason I love this series.

Well, in the TES novel, Vvardenfell
Spoiler
gets hit by a The Ministry of Truth, completely covered in ash from Red Mountain, and then invaded by Argonians.

So TES is going to evolve whether it's an MMO or not.

Yeah, I know. But the way that MMO's do it seem a bit offhanded, and if you weren't playing it, you would probably miss that it even happened. I just know that a TES MMO would grind the lore down to something laughable.

But would you still not buy the game for this particular reason?

I wouldn't. I still feel that it is absolutely ridiculous that if I create a stealth character, and spend the time to physically level blade to 100 using only a dagger, this same thief would be able to pick up a claymore and be able to wield it with the skill of William Wallace or something. There is no logical reason this scenario should exist, without my thief training in the use of claymores as well.

What's worse is that there is little apparent reason for this, and I personally feel that it reeks of dumbing the game down.

Anyway, if TES5 continues the trend of Oblivion, I will not pay for it. I have Oblivion, and I very rarely play it. Simply because I just do not have fun. I feel like I'm just playing a game, rather then role-playing. Even when I do feel myself getting immersed, I snap back when I realize that I can do anything. Simply put, a Barbarian should not be able to be in the Mages, or Thieves Guild.
