I'm curious, where exactly does the Imperial Legion get its recruits? Are different Legions from different provinces?

And how do they get recruits? Are they drafted? Volunteers? Proffessionals?

Looks like volunteers. They really haven't got any reason to draft people in a state of (mostly) peace.

All of the above, from what we've seen.

Vvardenfell's garrison is practically a local institution, mimicking and performing all the offices of civilization in an uncivilized place. They hire locals and free agents to do everything a government would do ordinarily. They are impromptu and decentralized and ad-hoc through and through.

And then you've got Cyrodiil, with an unrelated corps of civil guards made up of some equestrian class of Colovian males. They are standardized, professional, and partially ceremonial.

I assume that the Legions are going native in each province they occupy, and adapting to their environment because of a lack of direction from the capital.

Like Paw said probably all of the above. If you do a certain part of a certain quest you eventually meet this imperial who says that he was drafted into the Legion. Also there two brothers who said they joined the Legion.

Also they could be doing what the Roman Legions did in the Marian Reforms which is offer land, regular pay and government supplied gear like they did in Morrowind.

It appears that "qualified citizens" apply for enlistment in the Imperial Legion, at least in Morrowind. (See http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/ordolegionis.shtml)

damn fun too.

howevr- id assume the legion functioned similar to the the Byzantine army. proffessional, mostl y, with large contingints of auxillary troops and draftees. levying, lots of levying. the navy probbly sticks with good old fashinoed impressment, however.

Seriously, though. I think it may already have been answered. Better than I could do.
