Can thralls and blood slaves break free? Or are they permanently screwed? I know game mechanics don't show it, but I wonder if there's anything technically stopping this from happening?

I'm mostly curious because my headcanon is my character was enthralled before Helgen and broke free. It's my only excuse why my badass warrior is in his smallclothes running around the border. He got seduced. It's his one weakness.

I'd say yes. Anything that can be done, can be undone, especially in a game that has necromancy and resurrection. Probably needs magic, may have the equivalent of a hangover, i.e. a lingering after-effect that needs separate healing, whatever your RP demands.

You encounter summoned and non-summoned lesser daedra. It's reasonable to assume that the latter broke free of the binding, or else they'd still be in the plane they came from. Vampire thralls at least already belong on Nirn, so that would be easier.

Easy, your vampiric master got killed, which broke you free from his/her/it's influence. :P

I never looked at it like that, I always thought about it like they came in from a more powerful/permanent invocation, which doesn't necessarily bind them to whoever summoned them. I mean, we have stories of summoners whose summoned creatures screwed them over, so they obviously aren't as controlled as we think they are (not counting the gameplay). Also, we have daedric ruins in Morrowind. They are in "our" plane, there are no summoners present (at least not anymore), and there are still tons of daedra roaming around. The way I see it, Daedra can travel to our plane if given the means, just like we could travel to Oblivion in TES4. Summoning is just one of the weakest links between the planes, and they go back if killed or if their medium is killed.

The Dovakin is always an exception of the rule.

That makes two questions: Can a dragonborn overcome the vampire-seduction, and can normal people do that.

My personal assumption is, that vampire-seduction is only a very powerful illusion-spell. That would mean, the victim can fight against the spell and will someday come free.

Illusion-teachers will also train their students to fight the spell.

Since the will of the dragonborn is stronger than the will of anyone else, the dragonborn should be able to come free even without training.

Not everybody will ever get free from the spell. It's like the fight against any addiction: If the alternative seems worse, nobody will overcome it. The thralls we see will not overcome the spell, because they have deep insight a great fear of the alternative live as not-thrall.

You can also put that backwards: Fighting against the seduction has made the willpower of your char stronger. In the end, he has now a stronger will than a dragon, and only that enables him to take their souls. :)

I figured I broke free, personally. But it was an ordeal. It wasn't easy and he got out with mostly just the skin on his back.

The ironic thing is this playthrough also will have the Marriable Serana mod. He'll eventually come full circle :P

edit: Great posts btw

If one has the willpower they can beat the link, the problem is vampires would probably have the upper hand in willpower. Another possibility is yea, the vampire got killed but we don't know if that's fully true, that's just going on ancient myths and fiction in other games and media.

Another point to make is which Vampire clan we're talking about when it comes to willpower as each vampire clan has it's own unique attributes and personalities.

Or some Luck. An opportune find of a potion, (maybe to boost willpower?) or a scroll, or ...

The main thing is it was single-use, to account for your not having it any more.

What clan are the dudes in Bloodlet Throne? I always like incorporating something near the border for my origin stories. Sometimes spellswords, sometimes bandits.. but vamps resonate with me now.

Aren't those related to Siddgeir and Dengeir?

The old leader is.. not sure about the others.

I haven't done that quest in awhile, so it'd be cool to tie it in.

If you enter that dungeon without the quest, he's just a Master Vampire though (same elderly voice however).
