Sometimes I wonder if the decision to destroy Vvardenfell was Bethesda's way of getting revenge against those of us who complained about Oblivion. Surely, they have to see how very... uninspiring Imperial culture is, though? It's like food with little taste wrapped in the shiniest foil you've ever seen!

I'll miss Vvardenfell (and whatever of mainland Morrowind that was damaged/destroyed as well). It was a great source of culture, and its people, though xenophobic, were easy to get attached to. If nothing else, their xenophobia challenged me and made me wish to strive to earn their respect. I felt a sense of accomplishment when the people who knew me as "n'wah" began calling me "Nerevarine" and treated me like one of their own. It makes me wish for the Dunmer people to see me for who I am and not another oppressive foreigner! Cyrodiil simply didn't draw me in emotionally.

Hopefully, Skyrim will give us new reasons to be attached to the Nords. Are they really just drunken buffoons? Or is there something that lies deeper than that? How has hundred of years of history changed them? How has the Imperial occupation affected their culture? Is there bitterness towards other specific races? How do they treat family and clan ties? Are they loyal to their hold or to their nation as a whole? What is their political structure? These are the sorts of questions Bethesda needs to be thinking about. If such questions are answered, perhaps we can come to love the Nords as well?

If you ask me I don't think the Argonians would be able to hold Morrowind short of slaughtering three quarters of the population. I think the worst hit would be the Ashlanders, I can't see them leaving Vvardenfell even if any of them survived the volcano.

Assuming they survived, the Ashlanders would be the least affected of the races, their life would pretty much go on as it was - they were afterall already living in the volcanic wastelands of the island. If anything their territory just quadrupled in size.

The Nerevarine brought forth the return of the nomadic ways of Veloth, the false gods have been cast down and the prophecy has been fulfilled.

Been away from the forums so long as this almost seems like I'm on another planet :banghead:

What source (linky pleace) tells about the eruption of Red mountain and the subsequent escape to stony and cold Solstheim?

Obviously something I've missed entirely here...

Whit a major eruption of Red Mountain would it not make more sense that the Dunmer would take refuge on the main land assuming that the eruption would not affect that to a larger degree?

Remember Ald Ruhn! Remember Vvardenfell!

I'm guessing you havn't read The Infernal City? I'm sure some of your questions would be answered after you have read it.

Also, information about TESV revealed that there is a sizeable amount of Dunmer who have taken up refuge in Skyrim by the time TESV begins, and they have apparently built their own city there (as was revealed by a French magazine's coverage).

You know, that as I read the Infernal City, this revelation made me laugh. Quite the delayed prophecy, but oh so sweet.

It is a testament to the strength of the TES universe's lore and storytelling in my opinion that learning this actually made me genuinely sad. I know that, lore-wise, the Dunmer may have had it coming. But after all that history, right or wrong, and after having "lived among them" in TES III for so long, I actually, literally, became sad when I read this. (And no, I'm not ashamed to admit that, nor do I think it's strange. It means I can still be emotionally engaged by fiction that I love.)

I am hoping Skyrim gives me enough to love that if it's ever destroyed, I'll feel similarly.

+1.

The novel "Infernal City" has been out over a year now. Read it.

Red Mountain erupted because people lost their love for Vivec, which held Lie Rock above Vivec City. Some of the Dunmer sorcerers anticipated this coming and built a machine that runs off souls to keep the moon up regardless of Vivec's enchantment fading. Some how the machine failed, due to internal disputes over the morality of soul harvesting among the two chief engineers of the machine, and the moon crashed onto the city. Hard. The two engineers were cast into Oblivion and the rest of Vvardenfell went bye bye pretty quick. Then the volcano erupted.

The reason the moon was able to do so much damage is it was magically frozen in time and space. It maintained its original momentum from when Sheogorath chucked it at Mundus. It was going really, really fast just like an asteroid would have been.

Okay so for your second part. Sure. The mainland Dunmer were still fine...until a massive wave of millions of pissed off Argonians rose up from the south and over ran them, forcing them to flee their home country. These Argonians were acting under orders from the Hist. It was their time to rise up. Imagine all the centuries of oppression and slavery their kind had endured. Put yourself in their..well..nevermind. No shoes usually.

The old Dunmer culture and holdings were destroyed and scattered.

Never forget Redoran.
Never forget Dres.
Never forget Indoril.
Never forget Hlaalu.
Never forget Telvanni.

It's broke this time. Real bad. But that's ok. House Sul will eventually reunite the Dunmer and give them pride, but that's in the future.

Chaos is pleased with what the argonians did. They fulfilled the will of Khorne and Nurgle with their bloodlust and ending the highly stagnant dunmer culture, along with the efforts of the nerevarine. Now that they are scattered and broken, the Chaos gods only needs to watch their progression to see if they're even worthy of bestowing their gifts to them, or to bury a hatchet in their skulls once and for all.

Well, the Ehlnofey did take away Hist lands. They didn't want part of any Ehlnofey war, but had things taken away and sunk because of, what I highly suspect, the mer.

The Hist have as much or more right to be angry as any other sentient beings in existence. The Argonians are their servants and children. I highly suspect the Hist have a bigger part in the Lord of Souls novel coming in September but we'll see.

It's been a year since I read the novel, but I got the impression that the Argonians didn't settle southern Morrowind in large numbers after the moon fell. The city of Umbriel is said to have flown over a few Argonian settlements on its way to the IC, so it sounds as if they weren't much more than villages.

I hope we learn more about the Hist in the second novel. How many of the Hist had gone rogue, for example? Or was it the majority of Hist who were working with the An'Xileel fanatics.

I thought the only city mentioned that was soul svcked was where Annig came from. From there, it was just flying about, heading to Vivec.

I don't think the Hist tree in Lilmoth went rogue. I think it acted on a decision by the Hist as a whole to sacrifice the 'civilized' (can't remember the term) Argonians in an effort to save the majority.

The word you are looking for is 'imperialized.' Not to mention is was anyone who wasn't an argonian, along with imperialized argonians.

how could the Dark Elves not unite and make a stand somewhere? surely they could have stopped the argonians at some point instead of moving to solsthseim and skyrim? i am buying the book sometime soon so can any one explain why the Dunmer didnt make a stand? Why the hell they chose Nordic like areas to flee?
