It works for me too! Place it in steam/steamaps/common/falloutnewegas. When you launch the game it wil autodetect settings again and set it to medium. Change it to your desired settings (ultra settings for me) and the NPC lag is gone. You can see if it was succesfull if it says that your adapter is a Nvidia geforce 7900 GS

Quickpecs:
Win 7 64 bit
Intel Quadcore
4GB Ram
Nvidia GTX 260

Thanks!

Its almost impossible but it worked so far. Had 20-60 fps with vsync and now i have 59-60. What this file do ? force dx9?

Remember dont put this file in folder where saves are but where actual GAME is installed

Right, okay it works now. I put it in both my games > New vegas and COPIED that one and pasted it into my bethesda > fallout new vegas folder. Oh my god, I can't believe this actually works. Thankyou so much. Kaje, try this.

Confirmed this works for me as well. 60fps all the time now. I'm getting some issues with faces not looking right, but thats probably my ini tweaks from being 1/2 asleep last night. Thanks for this!

[Edit]

The faces looked fine once i stopped steam from being [censored] and downloading an old ini file. This fix worked perfectly for me and the game runs great now.

I have just register here to tell all of you who get lag around npcs and cant get working with the .dll to place it on your own game folder, i mean, installation folder.

C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout New Vegas (for me)

I first placed it on the FalloutNV folder but it seems to do nothing, i later checked the forums and someone said that when he placed the .dll on the FalloutNV folder, the next time he ran the game got an auto-setting change and as I checked, i was getting nothing, so placed it on the said folder and then got the setting change to medium. I executed the game and it worked smooth like Fallout 3 times.

So, in conclusion, check that when u place the .dll and play the game with the launcher (im using non steam version) it detect a differents settings.

P.D: Sorry about my english

Hmm. There is NO non-Steam version that I am aware of.

This worked for me! The big gun battle in goodsprings was completely smooth with the hotfix. Kudos to whoever figured this out and shame on Obsidian/Bethesda for making us pay 50 dollars to be beta testers. Game on!

Possible solution "Patch the frickin game". I shouldn't have to modify any .ini settings or toggle anything off. If you wanted us to play with people's heads cut off, you should have made the game that way. It was a bold move to release the game in its current condition. Especially since we dropped 50 dollars of our hard earned money in a sinking economy. I would have rather seen you extend the release date, and wait until the game is playable. Nobody likes playing with broken toys. Unless you're one of the types who enjoys pulling the heads off GI Joe figures.

I haven't tried this yet, but will this cause my game to run in dx9?

Yes. That is exactly what it does. But New Vegas doesn't have any DX10 or DX11 features, so you won't notice any difference in graphics. Except hopefully a cure for your framerate issues!

I doubt it. But if so, then I am buying the game from there to avoid all the STEAM nonsense.
