Rather be a Ranger then a raider who whines when his targets fight back.

The Khans knew what they were going to get into, seriously, they are a prime example of why you should always learn from the past mistakes. Everytime the Khans harassed the NCR the same thing has happened, the NCR beats their asses.

Even the Legion thinks very poorly of the Great Khans. Given the chance the Legion will wipe them out.

So if you support the Legion.. then you shouldn't be supporting the Great Khans.

lol its all i had for a comeback. I know they are raiders, but I find their faction to be cool. I'm just against the NCR because the last thing I would want to be part of is a government like that again, if the slate was wiped clean.

I voted for and tend to favor the NCR most of the time, probably because they're the most similar to the society we have in the real life, present day Western world. They value the rule of law, separation of powers, free markets, etc. At least, ostensibly, they do. But would people who've been bombed back into the stone age be ready for a return to an Old World society like the NCR? I don't know. Perhaps Caesar has a point. That's what I love about this game. Makes you think about hypothetical politics and philosophy. And I like that no faction is completely 'good' or 'evil', only different perspectives and the great writing of the game at least allows the player to understand the motives of each faction even if he's not convinced to join them. This was done almost perfectly. I would have liked to see just a little more of the positive aspects of superficially 'evil' factions such as the Legion and Enclave as well as more insight into the problems with doing things in the Followers' naive, bleeding heart, hippie way. Then it would really tie the player up in knots. No cartoon character, throwaway good or evil factions to offer an easy way out (I'm looking at you, Fallout 3!). It'd be more gray, closer to real life. Still, I can't complain much because the game got very close to achieving this and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

That said, I also like the laissez-faire individualism of the Kings and the emphasis of the Followers on a free-market of ideas. If those philosophies could be incorporated under the protection of the NCR, that'd be where I'd want to live.

Ok im gonna be the odd person out and chose based on how i feel right now, as another nameless number in a huge statistic (aka not as a badass as the courier).
Im gonna say legion.
ill expain why, growing up in an area that didnt have any running water or electricty i can appreciate and admire the idea of training and learning the legionaties are put through. Being taught what imho things that really matter the most of surviving and adapting off the land i can really appreciate and long for again.
granted the actual higher ups philosphy i dont fully agree with as far as certain details but then again i dontreally agree with alot of what my government is doing and has let been done either but im still part of this country flaws and all and as someone who like right now doesnt have a say really against the laws placed upon me, id ljke overall to be part of the legion.
Yes i would be part of something disastrous and it might fall apart BUT when it all goes down the training will let me survive whereever i please and continue going.
thats why i pick the legion because the other options that if i joined and they fall apart like a things eventually do, how am i gonna be better off and who would give me the best tools to continue going even after the "dream" of what i chose falls away?
Thats why i pick legion because the training and knowledge that is gained will help me more after it falls than any other society i can think of.

I'm a fierce fan of the cities and independent factions, voted Followers because they're lovely and because they're one of the embodiments of the indy spirit.

I find it funny you say all of that, but judging by your post, Mr. House would be far more suited for you than NCR.

True, true, I never worked with Mr. House much until very recently. In some ways I like him better than the NCR (because he confirms he'd leave people alone when it comes to how they live) but I'd also be wary of letting one man have that much power, while the NCR at least has separation of powers. Again, it's probably mostly due to the fact that the NCR feels familiar and strikes a chord with Americans like me.

while i absolute hate the leguin in game i do however agree with your point of view

however most people choice is based on todays concepts of good and evil ,democracy and morallity not something your character would really know

do not forget that the societies in the fallout world are just barely started rebuilding and are pretty much still in a dark age that surely will last another few 100 years

i always had a soft spot for the more liberal minded souls of the brotherhood of steel

The OP asked - "you can choose to be a citizen of the Mojave and apart of a faction. Which faction would it be?" Do you have any personal opinion on any of the factions? If so what would that be?

Personally? Whatever my characters are. I do not care because I am not in the Mojave in the Fallout universe.

Be like that, then.

OT: i'd probably just stick around Goodsprings and make myself useful there. I'm not big on adventure...

I'm all about the greater good so BoS or Followers of the Apocalypse, the Followers more suit my ideology but I can't resist the BoS after Elder Lyons and co. even though the other chapters don't share their beliefs not to mention the safety and training that would make life a lot easier

Based off the stuff he posts in threads about fallout makes me think Drake's idea of roleplaying is "My guy has a red gun" lmao!

Mr. House.

If you mean crazy guy, he'll likely say something about 'no faction' or whatever rants he goes on about.

Alternatively, my entire focus with this thread was to ask people where they think they'd be most happy living, thus forcing them to question the nation they support and think of their favored faction/home on a more personal level, because for example, a person who'd be happy with the Brotherhood wouldn't exactly have options with House or the Legion. Kinda makes you see the major factions in a different light when you see how they could effect your home.

Thusfar, I find it interesting that most people are either opting to live in a society much like our own, a group focused on helping people, or what's arguably the most comfortable post-war community to live in. One group wants things simple, one wants to care, the other couldn't care less. :P

OR I say something about not being in the Mojave, so only have what my characters see, so cannot make a choice unless based off of my characters.

I'd have to go with the Kings. I'd want to be in Vegas, but would rather be in Freeside where I can help people and make a difference, rather than on the Strip where I'm just living day by day amidst a bunch of tourists and casino owners who won't spare me a second glance.
The Followers are nice, and my second choice, but they span far beyond Freeside, and as we see in their wild card ending, they aren't equipped to tackle all the problems they set in their sights. The Kings are much more specific and focused in their goal of improving only Freeside, and it would feel more like a lifelong project than a futile attempt at changing the world. One person can make a difference in Freeside, and being in the Kings would allow for fairly comfortable living while we go about doing that. So yeah, they're my choice.

Westside would be the nicest part of Vegas to live in, and Goodsprings or Novac would be even better, but these would be too boring. Just surviving day to day. That's why the Kings and Freeside beat them out. I'd have a goal down there.

If it comes down to supporting a cause, the Followers are damn near immaculate to support.

When it comes to optimal living conditions, nothing beats House's Lucky 38 :D
