I remember the first time I saw the strip. I could see the lights in the distance. I started heading that way. Only the map does not make it entirely clear just where you are supposed to go to get into the place, so I wandered around in a big circle around the whole area before I found the gate I needed. By the time I got there, it was daylight.

Yes, I get lost all the time in games.

Heh, it has been a while since I played New Vegas but one thing I remember is having a tough time reading the map anytime I was in Freeside. Especially during quests where I thought my target was turns out to be another area/entrance I never even knew was there.

Never saw the preview videos or trailers before I played through NV for the first time. Knowing it used the gamebryo engine from elder scrolls games, and it's limitations, I knew it would be underwhelming in terms of NPCs and events happening onscreen.

However, I was pleasantly surprised by some things, like the light show at the tops, and the inside of Gomorrah (including the large basemant which I dind't find until my third playthrough).

Quite a bit disapointed by the strip itself.

It is not really bad, but considering it is supposed to be the peak of civilization in the Mojave, i expected something as big as New Reno/Vault City/San Francisco/The Hub etc...

Well an actual city, not just a few areas. I hope they drop that gamebryo and use a more Fallout-ish engine next time, so the cities feel like cities again.

Although we can also consider the whole Vegas neighbours (North Vegas, Freeside, West Side etc...) as the city proper and the strip as a fraction of it.

On the other hand, i was wonderfully surprised by Freeside, and the attention given to the sectors neglected by House policy, and how they handle themselves.

I remember getting excited and more excited as I got closer in my travels, the first time i played. Then i was underwhelmed with it all closed off and so many loading screens on console. Its so much nicer on the PC with the strip open mod

Yeah House says he is good for Vegas, but with the way the place looks he would have to be living in a fishtank to not see what a dump it is.... oops too soon? roflol

First time I glanced at the Strip was at Goodsprings cemetery and it was beautiful, especially in contrast to the dour aesthetic of Fallout 3.It was a special moment entering the strip, with the concomitant Blue Moon and ain't that a kick in the head playing in the backdrop, the only disappointment I have is the size of the strip.

Yes, my view from the Goodsprings Cemetery was quite something, especially after sunset. But that set me up for the disappointment of going through the gates that first time.

So, I guess for me, The Strip "from afar" was grand, indeed. Up close, though, not so grand

Likewise I prefer the strip from my favorite location in the game Goodsprings. I sometimes set up camp with a mod that adds a lit campfire and sleeping bag when I am playing on the PC.

Most times I do not bother going into Vegas unless the character has to.

First time I thought how it was cool seeing the lights all the way from goodsprings

The best feeling I ever had in FNV was in my first play through when I first saw the Gun Runners sign. It was night and I knew then that my luck was about to change for the better.

Almost intimidated by the size of the Lucky 38, looming over the place after hearing about an ever-watchful ruler living inside. I felt somewhat betrayed by Victor, and felt like something was up right off the bat. The soundtrack that plays in the Lucky 38 didn't help with the eerie feeling I got.

EDIT: On that note, anyone got a link to the soundtrack that plays in House's part of the 38?

It felt like I accidentally had walked into a different game

Mostly underwhelmed, honestly.

The irony being, the casino that had the coolest looking theme was the one that wasn't in operation (Lucky 38).

I was also really bummed House filled Vault 21 with concrete for no fathomable reason.

"Tell me, what do you think of what you see?"

"Honestly, I prefer the wasteland."

"You aren't going to start preaching about the virtues of living in a literal desert are you?"

"No man, it's just this place is kind of a craphole."

I didn't like it at all. Huge delusion.

People are so mean about it.

I left my HDR off the entire time up until I reached Gun Runners, then once I got there, I'd look up at the strip and wondered why all the lights were off. I saved at night, exited the game, and turned all the setting to max. I rejoined and was absolutely amazed; I was expecting some neon signs, maybe a few flashing lights. Nothing like that though.

I thought it was a beautiful sight from a distance. When I got there for the first time, I felt like the game had finally started. I love all the areas surrounding The Strip. It is all such a contrast to the rest of the Mojave wasteland. When I first arrived, I felt like I had actually found civilization. The Strip has always been an interesting place for me. I find all the casinos interesting to visit. I do wish there was more there, but for what it was, I liked it. Meeting Mr. House for the first time is one of my most memorable moments in my 30 years of gaming.
