Just as a TL;DR: Crytek UK employees haven't been paid for a long time and the majority of the employees have stopped working.

From where did you "learn" this? It is interesting you make this claim as if it established fact, but you did not list any link.

Please post your link so we can read for ourselves to see if indeed there is any truth to that story. My impression is that wherever you got it from, it's not at all verified, and is nothing more than just FUD, gossip, and rumors.

A quick search on Google reveals no official sources about the alleged cancellation of Homefront.

In fact, just the opposite. There is an article published TODAY, July 10, 2014, in the Examiner.com which interviews a Crytek game producer where it is confirmed that : "Homefront: The Revolution should be launching sometime next year and will be hitting PS4, Xbox One, PC, Linux and Mac."

The link is here:

According to this, majority of the Crytek UK staff have refused to work due to unpaid salaries. That pretty much stopped the work on the game. Granted, the report came first from Kotaku, who isn't the most reliable source of information, but it would be insane to work on a game without getting paid.

I think the story is bull and I'll tell you why. While there are rumors of financial difficulties, the extent of this is not known for a fact.

For argument's sake, let us assume for a moment that the financial problems and that some employees walked out are completely true. Would this affect the development of Homefront 2? Of course it would. But would it cause the complete suspension or cancellation of the game? No it wouldn't. Even these rumors say "some" people walked out, not everyone.

Don't forget that developing a large scale video game not only includes programmers, it includes artists, story authors, testers. Others involved include marketing, advertising, and accounting. And also intimately involved are producers and the management. Not everyone here "walked out" if that is what they supposedly did. How many walked out? Who knows, but we know that 100% of the people did not.

Add to that Homefront 2 is co-owned and co-published by the company Deep Silver. None of their employees have walked out on the development of this game. You can bet they're still working on it.

Knowing that there is a deadline to be filled, you can bet whatever employees are remaining on this project, both at Crytek and Deep Silver, they're going to be working extra hard to see that this game is completed on time. THEIR jobs and future depend on it.

These rumors are nourishment for Kotaku and other sites because these type of click bait headlines draws traffic. It is cheap sensationalism at the expense of accuracy.

Homefront 2 is still being worked on, maybe more slowly at the moment because of possibly less employees (if these rumors are to be believed), but it has not been suspended or cancelled. There are still people at Crytek and Deep Silver working on it. The only way we know suspension is a fact is when the companies themselves officially announce it. And if that happens, then EVERYONE will stop working on it, and then you can call it a true suspension, and not a fake sensationalist headline.

the majority of the employees have stopped working.

Hahaha! Sorry I had to laugh at this one. Wow its amazing how people believe everything they read on the internet without a shred of proof. "Majority'"? Seriously? Where did you get that from? Do you know for sure how many work at that studio? Do you know for sure how many left?

I read all the links related to this story and in all of them one thing was common, nothing was verified. They used words such as "according to" and so and so "claimed". I didn't see anything that could be said to be proof that these claims are true.

About how many people were involved in this dispute? Only one unidentified "source claimed" gave an estimate: 100. Why didn't we see any other "source" come up with that number? Why only one? If that many people left, that's a huge strike and we would have seen some obvious evidence from that. Instead, what we see is it is only just a "claim". No evidence at all, just rumors.

Crytek UK has 130 employees according to Crytek's homepage and if that estimate is even close to true, it would slow down the developement.

Not saying that the rumours are entirely true since I'm still not 100% convinced about the situation due to Kotaku starting the rumours, but considering how poorly Crytek has been doing lately (Ryse, Crysis 3 and Warface flopped, around 800 employees maintained and only few studios started to release anything profitable recently, CryEngine not being nearly as popular as Unreal or Unity), it would be a miracle IMO if Crytek didn't have any problems. I'm not an expert at this subject but I still can't imagine Crytek being able to move on without any layoffs right now.
