My Hopes for the Future of DLC

So with Automatron out now its pretty good. People will say that the story isn't long enough, but I feel it is all it needs to be. The point of the dlc is to let player build robot companions and it achieves it.

What excites me more is the future. My hopes for the future is for Bethesda to connect their dlc's.

Just think about it.

With the next dlc being the Wasteland Workshop imagine if they released 1 new robot design into the game. Only 1 you say? That doesn't sound like much.

But think of that 1 new robot and how it would fit with all the others parts.

Just imagine if we go to Far Harbor and while exploring we come across a door that requires a robot upgrade to open for those that know.

See what I mean by this?

Wasteland workshop may have features that translate over to Automatron and Things from Far Harbor to Wasteland Workshop. All linking and becoming useful in and relevant to each-other. In the past dlc have all been the same where you get it, do it, then its done.

New Vegas kind of worked with its connecting story and how you were following the courier before you, but other than that they are quite disconnected.

Using it as an example however:

From Big Mountain you got the Sonic Gun which, when fitted with the right modification, could be used to get through energy fields that would block your path. Now picture yourself exploring back in the Mojave to find one of these energy fields with loot behind it and you say to yourself "I remember these things from Big Mt"

That is what I hope Bethesda will do with the future dlc's.

I would love to have those moments where I say "Boy that first dlc I got has become more valuable now with the additions of the new dlc's."

maybe, although I think its more likely that they condensed all of the robot related content, feature wise, to automatron. I would prefer that they create new unique content rather than work on making features from one dlc interact with another.

Not to mention that would screw over any one who chooses to not get one or another specific dlc, and I imagine people would get butt hurt over that.

I don't think they'll do this. If they did indeed add a door that could only be opened by an automation robot, There would be a lot of rage from people who didn't buy automatron feeling forced into buying it to enjoy all of far harbor.

I understand that, but personally I feel that after I've done a dlc it goes a little stale because it isn't relevant anymore. Even if it was just one little thing that linked them.

Exactly the problem with an idea like this.

Does nobody remember the fiasco called "Destiny"?
And how it required DLC to access DLC to even access the Vanilla features. (lol)

EDIT:

If all DLC was free...then yes....great idea.
Or, if DLC was ONLY sold as a Season Pass and not individually...then yes...great idea.

So what if that feature didnt show up if you don't own one of the dlc's?

Well I'm already in for all the dlc. So I wouldn't mind compatibility between the dlcs. And I think we will see some of that. I think we will definitely be able to fight our robots in the WW arena.

But that's different from locked content behind a wall. Especially if that locked content gave unique items or something. Even if people without Automatron couldn't see it, once they see a forum post about it, it will be massive rage.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea, and the interconnectivity.
But, the gamers would feel...bad. :( (lol)

(((I did edit the post you quoted by the way, to explain this a bit.)))

Try the DLC gives you and or a companion skin, useful gear, tools, 'bots, factions, personalities and abilities you can use in the game, other DLC and any expansion?
