Pretty much got my rig sorted now for the time being, how do you think it will handle skyrim at 1920x1080?

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.5GHz
Ram: 8GB DDR3 1333MHz
GPU: 1GB Radeon HD 6870
MB: Asus M4A77T
Monitor: BenQ 22" LED 1080p

This rig should easily handle it with max settings.

same as mine, except I got x4 980, and my 1080p tv (pc monitor is crap)

Yeah I have a 32" 1080p TV but i prefer to play on the monitor dunno why more comftable as the TV is on the wall so would have to sit in an akward position to play on that.

Just built my new PC today, and I'm fairly happy with it.

GPU: Nvidia GTX 470

Pretty nice, no complaints. I'll probably end up upgrading my GPU to a GTX 580 closer to Skyrim launch when it's (hopefully) dropped in price. On the other hand, is anyone extensively knowledgable about SLI? Possibly considering pairing up another 470, but I was told that might bottleneck my PCIe slots. :shrug:

Opinions? What can the professionals tell this novice?

i'm not sure about your pc but i'm sure my carbonic system cannot run the skyrim(and oblivion i think!!!!) :brokencomputer:

The last "GT" that would have done what you would have liked, when it was still a current product (and for the games of its day) was the GT 240. Your GT 320 was a Low-Medium card when new, and is effectively merely "Low-End" today (there's not a useful performance differente between the 20s and the 30s). The current GT 440 /540 is barely into medium level, not significantly improved over the GT 240. The "120" was an entirely different kind of card by comparison, but other than that anomalously renamed Geforce 9n00 card, the "20" numbered / named cards have been Low End (and the 520 is even lower yet for some reason).

I'd prefer a nice monitor, but mine is poo so I'll settle for my tv with wireless keyboard/mouse on my couch

I can guarantee that you that it would be completely unnecessary to upgrade this system's GPU specifically for Skyrim, but hey, if you've got the money to spare, well, it wouldn't hurt either (particularly if you plan on going crazy with mods in the future, but those sorts of mods may not come out for years, so there would be no reason to upgrade now). :tongue: Can't help you on whether or not pairing up another 470 would be better than a 580 though.

At that resolution I'd say about medium settings to run it smoothly at good frame rates.

The number of pixels within the screen, so pretty much... yeah.

The higher the resolution, the better system it requires.

I think you should be fine @ 1080p at a "good high level settings", maybe not "Max", but looking good. Skyrim is only DX9 after all and http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/174?vs=162. I'd worry more about the CPU not pushing the GPU properly if Skyrim doesn't make good use of more than two cores.

I don't have any experience with computer specs, so could anybody tell me what info is important and where I can get it? Or is the Dxdiag good enough?

You'll need:

CPU: (to find: over 'my computer' right click and select 'properties')
GPU: (to find: over your desktop right click and select 'properties' go to the 'settings' tab)
RAM: (to find: same as CPU)
Resolution: (to find: same as GPU)
+ anything else you deem necessary
