Only thing you really need to upgrade is get some more RAM (I recommend 2x4gb sticks if you can afford it, otherwise 2x2gb is fine) + new video card. The CPU will be fine for a couple more years yet.

Hi guys- nvidia geforce 320m. 4gb of ram, 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo. I have run the past three BGS games really well (Oblivion on highest settings, Fallout 3 low-med settings but few crashes-none after water graphics turned down). I really want to play this game, and kind of want a new laptop soon, except mine is a year old ... Can I run this game AT LEAST at lowest, lowest settings? I don't care if it looks like crap, I'll play it and one day I'll continue playing it on my beast machine. Thanks for the help!

320M is in the medium to low section, so you should be able to play it with most things on low, and maybe a couple things on Medium. CPU will be fine for Skyrim.

Hows mine gonna run on 1920x1080 resolution? I know with my graphics card it's obviously not gonna be fully maxed but I'm hoping to get a decent framerate on mixed Medium/High settings. Anyway, specs:

Intel i5 650 @3.20 GHz (4 CPUs)
Nvidia GeForce GT 340 1 GB
4 GB of RAM

You can buy a new GC or you'll not be able to run the game.

The same than with tim_9, I think (see a bit above). I doubt there is a significant difference between the 320 and 340.

The GT 340 is just a re branded GT 240, so I'd expect around solid medium settings at 1080p. Maybe a tad more but not much.

Yes the M=Mobility, for the laptop version and if your scroll down their is a mobility GPU chart on the OP. I probably wouldn't hope for anything more than low settings at lower resolution but it should run, we'll have to wait until the system requirements come out for sure though.

TTBOMK, the GT 340 is just another name for a GT 240, so Medium / Medium, but at relatively High Resolutions like that, only Low-Medium settings (it's not fast enough and doesn't have adequate memory system bandwidth to handle the full GB of VRAM within a game).

what you've listed so far should run the game just fine. however, you left out the video card/graphics adapter. if you can find out what video card/graphics adapter your system has and list it here you'll get a much better answer.

We need the rest of the DxDiag, for all we know he could be running integrated graphics.

I understand that even medium settings are too much to hope for, but will minimum settings work with at least a decent frame rate?

I couldn't find any info on the GPU but the closest ones were a medium, so maybe expect medium settings. Now the resolution+medium settings I do not know


Low settings, you are right, but as for FPS, as long as you are not asking too much of it

Since the various "30" Geforces are almost all (with the exception of the 430) just renamed GT 220s, you're looking at Low settings if you want that high of a resolution.

I didn't see it on the main sticky list they have, all I saw was the 285 card............ :whistling:

First off good job making that final point about CPU architectures, very import with the split between 45mn and 32mn. That said I find the statements here a little conflicting. When we say 2.8 GHz on a modern dual core I suspect you mean 32nm cores, or is this a broaders statement? And doesnt that conflict with the third statement, 2.0 - 2.8 is a huge leap? I ask all this cause I just happen to be right in the middle, and Im trying to make a decision between upgrade (Graphics card/ram) and overhaul (new I5 build). My choice being largely based on this game and new monitor.

Also noticed were suggesting a quad core, a lot of game still string just 2 or 3 cores. For consideration of builds, cores tap? PhysX?

So where might I fall.

Don't expect a huge difference in performance between the 1GB and 2GB cards unless you're running multiple monitors, or a monitor that supports resolution above 1920x1200. Also as of right now we have no information that Skyrim will support multiple monitors, just for those that are on the fence about going 1gb or 2gb.

Now, I actually do have a question. It's a little more techy than the rest, and I know my PC will run skyrim, but I am going to ask anyway.

I plan on upgrading my motherboard soon, because it has very bad horror stories about overheating and catching fire with 125w CPUS, I am currently running a 95w, but when BD drops I will be grabbing one first day. I need a motherboard suggestion that has SATA III, AM3+, and support 16x/16x rails for crossfire (radeon). I don't want to go crazy and buy a crosshair V, but I don't want trash either.

This will most likely be a silly questions, but the fact is that i know next to nothing about CPU performance, but I hope you could
provide some information.
As I have a relatively old laptop on which Skyrim would never run, I decided to get a new PC, and this topic was very useful, so thanks.

But I have a questions about CPUs. In the initial post you were mentioning dual-core CPUs. But what about the quad core ones?
Are they better or worse, or does it make no difference at all? I know this might sound stupid but, are the extra 2 cores somehow "to much"?
I was looking at an AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz, and it is a quad core, so should this be good?

Many games and apps use 4 cores, so you won't underuse it if you're worried about that. But Skyrim, being a 360 port, surely won't be optimized to use more than 3 cores. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.
