Skyrim and gamepad support

Hello fellow adventurers,
sadly I'm still waiting for my copy of Skyrim to arrive(hopefully this week) so I envy every single one of you who can freely go slay mighty dragons and less mighty random stuff.

Anyway back to the point,I'm thinking of buying a gamepad to play Skyrim with, since it seems very console friendly (I have an old Microsoft SideWinder gamepad but i guess it's not gonna do the trick for Skyrim).
From a quick search i found out that it supports the XBOX 360 controller, so i guess it's more like plug and play with no other tweaks or programs needed.
However I'd like to save as much as i can so I'm leaning towards the Logitech F310 gamepad(It's about 10€ cheaper than the Xbox controller or the Logitech F510, and the Vibration on those don't think it's worth it)
So anyone tried it?Does Skyrim support it or does it need tweaking\other programs to run smoothly with the game?
Any advice is welcome, thanks in advance.

i suppose it's the same as with all the other games: xbox360 gamepad support, lackluster, if any, support for any other types of gamepad.

Seriously, if you're the gamepad type (like i am), get an xbox360 gamepad. plays beautifully on my 32" TV and have much better graphics than my consolero friends and i am thus able to brag about bigger epencs size.

I'm sure the game doesn't have native support for non-X360 gamepads. You'll have to use a X360 gamepad emulator.

@ranjak - its important to point out that the 360 controller is the one made especially for the PC and appears to applications just like any other joystick would with no need for "emulators".

He's talking about games that need an Xbox360 controller emulator app to work with standard PC joypads. GTA IV doesn't support many joypads so you need a Xbox360 emulator app to fool it. Game developers are that lazy now that they just support Xbox360 controller.

"native support" is an interesting term to use in this context.

Skyrim is a DX9 game so natively it should support any game controller that registers itself as such in Windows.

I think it's more accurate to say that Skyim is natively an Xbox 360 game, and as such is hard-coded to be unable to support other DirectX compliant controllers.

The F310 should be fine. I use the wireless F710 and am still on the same set of batteries after 119 hours of playing Skyrim. The only two differences of the 310 from the 710 is the 310 is wired and has no vibration. IMO, the vibration 'feature' isn't anything special and doesn't really do much in Skyrim. I used it at first but after a few hours turned it off to save battery life. The great thing about a wired gamepad is you always get instant response. As good as the 710 is you still sometimes get a slight delay.

So, yeah, you'll be just fine with the F310. Hold on a little longer, the wait will be worth it, trust me.

This is not the case any more especially if you get a game like GTA IV and games are ported to support XBox360 controller and probably a very small set of PC controllers.
