I don't know if anyone has seen this, but I was reading on it and it blew my mind. I did a search, but could not find any topics about it here...The original topic can be found here: http://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments/nklj2/you_know_those_runes_on_the_lids_of_the_bug_jars/?sort=top

Taken from the first post:

"The full account of my attempt to translate this was in a comment: http://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments/njn30/anybody_know_what_these_symbols_on_the_lids_of/c39sjvc

Tl;Dr: I translated them from the Elder Futhark runic language, and they each say something strange.

NOTE: These translations were of my own work and other people who filled in the blanks or corrected me on things. I do not claim entire credit for it.

The runes on the bee one translate to GIANT/THOR-HAIL-NEED

The runes on the butterfly one translate to JOY-ICE-SORROW

The runes on the dragonfly one translate to NEED-HORSE-LAKE.

The runes on the moth one translate to DAY-NEED.

The runes on the torchbug one translate to YEW TREE-HORSE-HAIL-NEED.

There have been many theories created while this thread has existed, most notable of which are mentioned below.

EDIT: This has blown up from runes on bug jars to theories about a religious Altmer trial to wipe mankind off of the plane of existence and from Tamriel. There's two likely theories here: the first one should be easy to find, it's the top comment, and the second one expands upon the Weynon stones, for which I will include a link: http://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments/nklj2/you_know_those_runes_on_the_lids_of_the_bug_jars/c39wpky

EDIT:EDIT: Upon recent investigation, I'm not sure if all of my translations were completely right. Either way, this translation of the runes has led to the discovery of the Transmutation circle between the five cities, so this could still mean something. A more accurate translation and meaning of the sets of runes: http://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments/nklj2/you_know_those_runes_on_the_lids_of_the_bug_jars/c39z2gn

I'm feeling this is required for the lazy, but here's a Tl;dr of the two prime conspiracy theories.

Someone noticed the connection between the five cities Morthal, Whiterun, Winterhold, Dawnstar, and Windhelm, and realized they formed a Pentagon. He also noticed three dragon "sanctuaries" or whatever you may call them, Mzinchaleft, and the Tower Stone formed a smaller pentagon within it, making a transmutation circle. In the general area of the middle of the circle, there is a shrine to Talos with a circle of stones around it. His theory was that if you placed the bugs on their respective cities (see post for relation between bugs and cities), committed genocide in those ctities, kill the dragons at the dragon areas and the one that Mzinchaleft leads to, activate the tower stone, and wait for the "Promised Day".

The second one expands upon the Weynon stones. The guy figured out that the Thalmor are trying to erase mankind from existence, and the things that are stopping them are the eight towers:

Crystal Tower

Red Tower

Tree-sap

Orchalc

Khajiit

all of which were destroyed or deactivated. The most significant and only remaining one are the Brass Tower and Snow-Throat, or the Throat of the World. The Brass Tower was cast out of time. The tower may have a spiritual connection with Numidium, the brass god, and the disappearance of the tower and therefore Numidium may tie in with the disappearance of the Dwemer. Snow Throat is the only active one. Each of these towers have stones which bind them to Nirn, and the theorist concluded that the Weynon Stones bound Snow Throat. This is why the Thalmor have been waging war on Skyrim; so they can destroy Snow Throat or the Weynon Stones, either way destroying the last tower and wiping mankind from existence.

Something else has come up; Under the Weynon Stones in Blackreach is the Hall of Ruminations!"

There are posts below it in the topic, but that is the bulk of the idea. Pretty cool stuff!

I really have no idea what this is.

At all, is it like a cow level or something?
A lore easter egg?

Upon further reading, I'm skeptical

Although it might be the reason the CK is taking so long

But I still think there are too many variables, can the game even recognise where jars are let alone if their upright?

Either way, it's pretty crazy. And the connection to the Thalmor is really interesting. Even if it's not true, it's awesome that this guy figured all of this stuff out.

I had to reread it a few times in order to understand what he was getting at.

Unless you believe the theory he is a Bethesda employee who just couldn't stand this easter egg not being found, It might even be the secret Dwemer questline that people were raving abput

Basically some guy at reddit has discovered (or created, he may be a Bethesda employee) a ritual which on an unknown date (ingame I think) has a mysterious effect.

That makes me think even more that this is Dwemer related (if real)

Yeah that was my conclusion too. This is pretty cool and huge props if he worked this out himself.

I have no idea what any of that meant, but good find. Maybe its a huge easter egg that will allow us to travel to the Void and see if Sithis will let Cicero sing and dance, or at least caper.

I've started collecting these bug jars, and I'm going to follow the posts sort of like a walk-through just to prepare for this....And if it's not real, well then, I would have collected random bug jars with runes on them, and got to see some of the sites in Skyrim. It's a win-win.

Someone thinks it may hint at a DLC in Cyrodill (which is already in the game, just not populated), but I still hope it is Dwemer related

Found another really long post explaining the Thalmor in great detail. It has quite a bit of information on the main idea of this topic, and the steps within the process that the Thalmor are trying to accomplish! http://www.ulthuan.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=37245&start=30

"To kill Man is to reach Heaven, from where we came before the Doom Drum's iniquity. When we accomplish this, we can escape the mockery and long shame of the Material Prison.

To achieve this goal, we must:

1) Erase the Upstart Talos from the mythic. His presence fortifies the Wheel of the Convention, and binds our souls to this plane.

2) Remove Man not just from the world, but from the Pattern of Possibility, so that the very idea of them can be forgotten and thereby never again repeated.

3) With Talos and the Sons of Talos removed, the Dragon will become ours to unbind. The world of mortals will be over. The Dragon will uncoil his hold on the stagnancy of linear time and move as Free Serpent again, moving through the Aether without measure or burden, spilling time along the innumerable roads we once travelled. And with that we will regain the mantle of the imperishable spirit."

Okay guys, you have to hear this. I've read through it all, the whole conspiracy, and I've come to one main single conclusion. Parrthurnax and the Greybeards are basically the last line of defense that keep mankind bound to Mundus. By allowing the Thalmor to eradicate Parrthurnax and the Greybeards, they would then have access to the stone that binds Snow-Throat (The Throat of the World) to the world, and Snow-Throat may be the last of the eight towers that essentially hold up reality.

What does all of this mean? The Blades are essentially The Bane of Mankind. If you listen to the Blades and kill Parrthurnax, you, The Dragonborn, that is supposedly prophesied to save mankind, are essentially dooming it all over again. The Blades, and potentially the Last known Dragonborn, are indirectly and unknowingly threatening the survival of mankind. The Thalmor hate and hunt down members of The Blades, while the whole time they were helping them without even realizing it.

The Blades are unknowing Agents of the Thalmor.

I KNEW Parthurnaax was a nice guy, I'm still holding out on it being Dwemer and/or Staff of Chaos related though

Well, another thing that I was enlightened to while reading through all of these conspiracies is the Dwemer's mysterious disappearance. I found out that the Dwemer may have been banished from Nirn the same way that Alduin was defeated by the original heroes. What does this mean? The Dwemer are bound to return at some point in the future, and the same way that Alduin has returned now.

So maybe in a future Elder Scrolls game, perhaps sometime in the Fifth Era, we might have a game that is actually based on the Dwemer and their return, which would be mind-blowingly amazing. There is so much untapped lore in this game it's astounding. It's like we are reading The Elder Scrolls.

Posted this in the other thread:

Anybody know the names of the some of the key developers? I wonder if those "runes" could just be their scrawled initials.

I dunno... seems way more simple and much more likely.

Sorry but this does not fit very well with the behaviour displayed by the Greybeards or Paarthurnax. They Greybeards wanted the Dohavakiin to do nothing at all to stop Alduin. They want the old world to end so that the new world can start. Which is why they themselves did as little as possible to assist in the fight against Alduin.

Paarthurnax' does not understand the concept of mortality. He couldn't care less either way whether the world lived on or not. He helps the dhovakiin to defeat Alduin not because he cares about mortals but because of his personal history with Alduin. He feels compassion for mortals, I agree, but he also finds the idea of one world ending and a next beginning intriguing.

I have not come across one piece of lore that even remotely suggests that the Thalmor considered Paarthurnax or the Greybeards a thread. Heck, they don't even know that a dragon leads the Greybeards. I still love Paarthurnax though and refuse to kill him because he's cute when he sticks his big nose in my face for a chat. :D

I think if it has anything to do with anything at all, it relates to the character called Rune who's found in the Riften Cistern. He's been searching all his life for the meaning of the rune stone he was found with when he was rescued from a shipwreck. The last words you speak to him in the first encounter as "I'll look into it."

It could be an unrealised quest, there's been plenty of them in previous games.

even if it might be false (or dare I say troll) but how friggin sweet is this, some national treasure indiana jones stuff right der, gunnu collect the jars tomorrow and go from there. This is what I love about games, mystery. Even if it was a troll, I must still thank thee because it would still be fun to investigate
