I'm just curious, what exactly does the "optional" status do on this companion quest? It says I have the option to wipe out the Glenmoril witches and the option to wipe out the Silver Hand. If I wipe them out, will they never come back? Need help as soon as possible. Thanks!

You can never truly wipe them out since the Sliver Hand will respawn in the assigned forts given to you when you teamed up Aela.

Companions are a poor questline anyway... but I do think I'll display the Glenmoril Witch's Heads in Honeyside.

More for stats - quest is completed whether you kill all the Silver Hands or not. If sneaky just sneak out, no penalty. If bloodthirsty means more loot and XP in that dungeon.

I think the optional tag is just there to let you know you don't have to clear those locations in order to complete the Companion's quest.

Companions had the best questline anyways. And the Silver Hand do respond, like everyone mentioned above.

You don't have to kill all the witches either, 4 to do all the quest lines they are needed in so you can leave one alive. Far as I know they don't respawn though. I killed 3 for each of the companions because I wanted to play as a werewolf for awhile, leaveing the other two. 4 game months later the orignal two were still their.

do you get any fun perks after the companions quest line is over? all I seem to get is to get people to follow me around

Something wierd I noticed... all bandits you encounter while in beastform are labeled Silver Hand. Why is this?
