Should I dual wield 2 swords, 1 sword and 1 axe, or 1 sword and 1 dagger?

I like weapons like swords and dagger that are really fast but I think war axes are the most cool looking one handed weapons. I don't like maces because their slow.

I just finished the Civil War Quest line and through out it I came across two Orcish Swords. One was 20 points of Fire damage and the other ws 20 Points of Shock damage. I would dual wield them and cut people down like they were made of butter.

I typically used maces against armored foes and axes/swords against non-armored. There are two perks on the one-handed tree that can speed up your swings. From what I've read at UESP, they state your dual swing speed is based on your off-hand weapon. Anecdotally I do seem to swing faster with a dagger in my off-hand.

I currenlty wield two daggers.

Mushudog: Keep trying on the mace of molag bol (i.e. use smithing enchanted gear or try again at a higher smithing level). I smithed mine to legendary. it's also, imho, the best looking mace in the game.

Swords are my personal favorite. Dual daggers are pretty good, too. I have also used a mace/axe with a sword quite a lot of times with my first character.

I mainly play as a bowman (yes - usually male characters) and back this up with dual wielding for when it gets up close so to say. The best way to take down a bowman (or almost any ranged character) is to 'shut down' that character by moving in close - and the AI in Skyrim seems to take this into account very well.

For dual wielding, my usual setup is an axe with a fire enchant (targets on fire receive harder hits) as primary and a mace with a 'soul trap' enchant as secondary - maces are somewhat slow but they do tend to hit hard. The enchants are used as soon as available to character.

I also usually carry the best dagger available to my character with a suitable enchant as this can have its uses when sneaking! My armour is always the best light armour available to my character.

As a bowman (character), I find archery, light armour and sneak perks get a lot of attention and back them up with one handed perk and then go to supplementary perks such as the very useful smithing and enchanting.

As for 'What's the best set ...', this really is a personal choice thing. You could try playing a test character and try the different setups to see which you are most comfortable with. Which ever way you go, I hope you have fun. :)

Edited for some spelling errors and one hilariously badly spelled word!

I personally use a sword/dagger combo, but if you want what is statistically best, sword in the left hand/mace in the right will give you the highest DPS, as the left-handed weapon will determine the speed of power attacks, which are something you want to be using a lot anyway.

sure but since you cant block you need to be able to move out of the way from enemy strikes. a swing with a mace will slow you down to much and you end up with a battle axe to the face

My orc warrior found war axes very effective, especially after a few perks.

The dark elf assassin was just as fond of his daggers as he was with his bow.

I tried dual daggers and they don't please me. Not necessarily the damage, but the sound, the visceral feeling that I actually hit the target is weak except the kill animations. I prefer swords or magics.
