Hearthfire - Questions

Hello, I am considering buying Hearthfire but I won't do so until someone can confirm that it offers more than just being able to build a small house on the prairie with crops and big mouthed children.
My expectations are basically:
- Being able to build some sort of a ''fort'' or ''castle'' with guards, townspeople
- My own piece of soil or land. Note that I'd like it to be somewhat ''big'' and ''respectable''. Whiterun is a good example of this. Perhaps a little smaller.
- Being able to set up traps, archers on my towers so that I may defend it against dragons, bandits and other unwanted visitors.
- OPTIONAL: A stable where I can store my horses.
That's all.
Also, I don't want to spend money on something that I already have. What difference makes it whenever my house is inside a town or outside in the wilds. Not to mention that if I can't have guards, I wouldn't be living in a small wooden cabin all alone in a forest lurkin with beasts and bandits.
