I am playing skyrim special edition on the PC and My keyboard does not work, what gives? Do I have to do everything with my xbox controller? I am only at level 2 so maybe something will change later on. In playing it in the past I could hot key spells, now I can't.

No, you do not have to use the xbox controller.

Checked your options? In-game? Controller type selected? What have you actually tried?
