Option to turn off Blood/Gore?

I personally like the ability to turn off gore when I have younger siblings or parents in the room. I feel like it wouldn't be all that complicated for them to at least give gamers the choice, even though most of the time we won't use it.

Edit: To those saying that they want to always have gore, allowing this option would have zero effect on you. You wouldn't have to utilize this feature. It would just allow people in more complicated situations to be more fully able to enjoy the game.

Yes. Options are good. I remember getting slowmo headshots in FO3 with my mom in the room and the bloody mess perk on. Not something I'd like to repeat too much.

Blood or not, there will probably be other instances in the game that will probably be more graphic and worse. BGS may allow players to turn off the blood, but I would suspect most won't.

I too would like that option. I like gore, I just think it's nice to have the choice.

There shouldn't be an option to turn it off, once again it's one of those little toggle abilities that spends dev time on changing. If you have the PC, you can change the gauge on blood, if your on the 360 you really have no option at your ready. The PC version usually at the lowest setting doesn't really show the blood well so it shouldn't be offensive and if your on the PC anyway, there will be a remove gore mod out soon, it is such an easy ini change.

Your mom actually cares that much about blood and gore?

I don't know what everyone else's situation is like, but in my house they can be around for considerable periods of time. I'd rather not have to look at the pretty trees for a half hour while I wait for them to leave.

Exactly...there's a fair chance for static scenery in the odd place or two, unaffected by "gore level adjustments," that are worse than any flying body parts and blood sequences.

Nevermind what "optional" boils down to anyway. (See signature) ;)

No - it's been stated that the level of brutality will be increased, so as to fit into the gameworld. To toggle it off would be to dilute the experience - they've already said it won't be Fallout levels of gore, so that's not a worry. If a more visceral gaming experience isn't your thing, then Skyrim probably won't be for you, seeing as this is what the devs seem to be aiming for.

[Edit] As for having younger or more sensitive people in the room - well, to put it bluntly, that's your problem. I don't see why devs should account for everyone who may accidentally come into contact with the game - how do you think horror games would turn out if everyone designed games with that in mind?

Agreed. Odds are Skyrim will get an M rating.

I dunno...I was raised in a lenient household and was allowed to play any game I wanted and watch any movie I wanted after pretty much the age of 12. So I definitely don't sympathize with the OP. Its not real life violence, its a game. Its all textures and pixels in the end anyway. :teehee:

Judging by the amount of blood in the trailer... I don't think you'd need to worry if you had siblings above the age of five. And I doubt the impale moves last long enough to be seen in full detail.
However, an option would hurt no one, just keep in mind that like Redguard King said, there will most likely be things that can't be turned off. Remember the headless zombies and mutilated corpses in Oblivion?

Options are good, but this would just take time away from them that they could be using to do something more productive.

Also, I don't think we have to worry about fallout level style of gore in this game.

And if you're looking after kids, for goodness sake turn off the game and look after them. If you're a parent, play the game when they've gone to bed or something - would you ask for all 18 rated films to be toned down so you could watch them in front of your kids?

Yeah I recognize there will be some things that can't be turned off, but it's much less of a sacrifice to avoid creepy dungeons in the presence of my five year old sister than to avoid action altogether.

Most R rated films don't have hundreds of hours of viewing time.

Well removing impaling and minor blood is what ruins good anime when they get dubbed over to the USA, the "we don't want our children to see such violence" people chop up the show and put in corner still images to take up the time and what not which can also translate to video games. Kids aren't going to be ruined seeing someone stabbed in a video game or anime, unless it's one of those overly graphic ones that might haunt them for a little while, which is not something you have to worry about from TES. I have seen naked seductresses in TES when I was 8 and have played many games growing up with plenty of blood and gore and I'm not some homicidal, anti-social person. Oh wait...
