I'm hoping somebody has some input as to why my FPS is suddenly dismal and my graphics so weird coming back to Oblivion after a while. I wonder if it has something to do with the new graphics drivers for my Nvidia GTX 960? For some reason the screen shakes and tears when I "override" antialiasing, and I can't use HDR for that reason. As for stuttering, should I mess around with the Threaded settings in the .ini? Or background loading?


I'm hitting really crappy framerates even with streamline, the memory patch, everything. Streamline reduces my sight to ten feet away in order to hit 50 FPS. I mean, I don't expect much from Oblivion - 30-40 FPS is what you expect with FCOM, but this really svcks. I haven't been modding for a while - is there something in my load order that's wonky? Anything I can update? Does the weather mod have substantial effect? Thanks in advance

First thing I've seen through quick glance is you're using Progress which is outdated mod. Replace it with nGCD or Realistic Leveling.


I've read in nGCD that it uses some unoptimised coding and scripts, so maybe RL would be better option performance-wise, maybe someone would elaborate on that.



You haven't tried OSR, you should definitely try checking Heap replacement and different values.


Maybe try out experimental features - iThreadsFixedToCPUs set to 1,2,3,4 (results may vary for OS).

FCOM is a demanding mod. While it won't necessarily be enough to slow down a game all on its own (although it has done so for a few people), in combination with a large mod list it can cause framerate problems.



You have some mods that are script-heavy and others that add NPCs. I would look at those first. Enhanced Daedric Invasion, Tamriel travelers, Enhanced Economy, Basic primary Needs, Basic Physical Activities, Realistic Fatigue are a few of the mods I would look at.



I have to ask: are you really planning to use all those mods in a single game? Maybe it would be a good idea to think about what you expect to accomplish with the character you intend to play, and decide whether you are going to use all of these mods in your game. You may find that you can prune some of them from your list.

I've been fiddling with Oblivion for the last month. Bunch of restarts and mod combos. One thing I found is that the newest NVidia drivers don't work at all for me. Game wont even start. I am using 358.91. No problems.

The latest official drivers from Nvidia broke Oblivion. Oblivion Reloaded fixes it. You'll probably want to grab it from the Nexus. IMHO, no one should play Oblivion without at least the unofficial patches and Oblivion Reloaded.

Sz - I am using the Heap (1 with external .dll) and it's awesome.



Pser - This mod combo was working just fine a few months ago. Nvidia's drivers really mess something up.



I've turned down the view distance (groan) and no longer benefit from distant anything, and now it runs like magic. Pure 60+ framerate, anywhere (I've set both OSR and Streamline to min 60 fps, that's the real trick to it)



But what I really want to figure out is why, when I set the option to "override AA" in order to have HDR, I get this weird flickery shaking/flashing of the entire screen whenever I'm struck in combat. Weird.

I'm worried with my mod setup installing it might totally [censored] my system. Do I need to delete the .ini? Last time I did that the game wouldn't even start. God knows what I changed...

Well, you basically have a full FCOM order. It's not that big of a LO, considering some that I've seen. A fresh INI is a core troubleshooting step. It fixes problems, not cause them. The only sure way to crash from a fresh INI is if you are using some sort of alternate fonts. I.e. DarN or DarkUI'd DarN.



It's your LO, your game, but I'd recommend OR. With the right tweaks, it enhances stability and performance. It fixes bugs as well. I wouldn't worry about it nerfing you LO. But I can't ,rule out a little troubleshooting either;l don't know your setup.

Pseron , apart from fps issues, is there a particular reason you would not use enhanced economy and tamriel travellers? I m undecided about these two vut in particular about enhanced economy. Do i need to have stuff differently priced all over tamriel? Mmm

OK, I reinstalled the whole game with a fresh .ini.



Everything seems fine, but this time I'm using QTP3 in an OMOD. I am using BSA redirection...



Somehow I have flickering hair textures and missing faces on the PC... what's up with that? It's not improved facial textures... uninstalling it doesn't seem to help. Wonder if its' my damn graphics drivers...

Oh, I tried OR Mal, but it space-blasted my FPS, even after tweaking all the settings. Meh, I'd rather stick with what I've got and just be able to play, thanks though.

It's your load order. Never a wrong choice with what's in your load order... odd that OR decreased FPS for you. It's actually written to improve FPS versus vanilla (and it does for most people).
