I know I'm supposed to load the Morrowind master file, but nothing shows up in the Open File box--it's empty! Didn't I install it the right way? Thanks in advance :] (This is probably why girls shouldn't play video games.)

your morrowind ESM should be under the path bethesda softworks/morrowind/data files. if it's not then you installed it wrong :)

Are you using Windows and if so, what version? Vista and Windows 7 should not be installed to the Program Files (x86) folder because they like to hide the files Morrowind needs.

Yes, I'm using Windows Vista, and whenever I install Morrowind, it says there's a Data Files error. I looked it up and tried to fix it, but it fixed 25 of the first 2,000 errors it found and that was it (it only offered 25 freebies). Do you have any advice, Jac?

If it's in the Program Files (x86) folder, move it to another folder like c:\games\morrowind. The actual folder doesn't matter, as long as it's in its own folder and not in the Program Files folder. After that, you want to run both the morrowind.exe and construction set.exe files under administrative privileges. You can do that by right click on each file in turn, selecting properties and then run as administrator. This http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/781497-vista-problems/ has more information about running Morrowind under Vista.
