Is there such a place or way to download the sound files from morrowind (or oblivion) or would this class as illegal pirating?

You have to install the game to get the sound files.
But you are free to mod the original files all you like.

They are all on the play disk. That's a lot less trouble and bandwidth. Don't have the game and would like to download them somewhere? Go buy the game. It's fun.

I just checked the Construction Set disk. The sound files are not on it at all. The only asset folders on the CS disk are: Book Art, Icons, Meshes, & Textures.
When you install Morrowind on the PC, using the play/install disk, the sound and music files are extracted from one of the data.cab(s) and put into the appropriate folders in the data files folder.

negative, ghost rider.

seems i was wrong about the CS, but only mods put stuff into your "sounds" install folder. more than likely they are in the .BSA

I think you're wrong on this one, RAKninja. Out of curiosity, I just did a new install to test and the music and sound files were all extracted into the Music and Sound folders.

what do you know, you're right. they just use an odd (to me) directory structure to where it looks like they are sounds added by mods. wonder why.

It's ridiculously cheap; even if you only buy it for the sound and music files it'd be worth it.

I have all the tracks on my iPod. :)

You do know that just about any computer made in the last 6-8 years can run Morrowind, right?

Anyway, you can pick it up in the UK for http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/142839/Morrowind-Game-of-the-Year-/Product.html?ptsl=1&ob=Price&fb=0&searchstring=Morrowind&searchtype=allproducts&searchsource=0&urlrefer=search or http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elder-Scrolls-III-Morrowind-Game/dp/B000J39B1C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293193846&sr=8-1 for GOTY. Less if you just want it for the sounds.

I don't know what US prices are like, but Steam has it on offer at the moment if you don't want to wait for a hard copy. (Currently £9.74 on Steam for GOTY). Steam is usually cheaper for US residents, so it can't be that bad, right?

Plus, as others have said, it really is a great game.

Love the music in Morrowind. The one thing I don′t like is that the volume changes so if it was on a good level before, suddenly it′s waay too high and I have to dampen it. Then of course I have to raise it again :banghead:

The music is in \Morrowind\Data Files\Music\

The other sounds are trickier to get... They are in \Morrowind\Data Files\Morrowind.bsa | You'l need a BSA extractor to crack open the file...
